Kevin Kelber Obituary

Kevin Allen Kelber

January 20, 1972 ~ April 2, 2016

Cary

Kevin Allen Kelber, of Cary at the age of 44, was called home to be with the Lord. While vacationing in Florida, Kevin was hospitalized due to internal bleeding. With his parents by his side, Kevin peacefully passed away due to multiple complications on April 2 in Gainesville, Florida.

Kevin, born in Ohio, was the son of Gerald and Sharon Kelber. He was the proud graduate of Cary High School and NC State University.

In addition to his parents, Kevin leaves behind his beautiful, smart and brave children-son Jordan, 18, a NC State Freshman and daughter Carson, 16 a junior at Leesville Road High and their amazing mother, Stephanie. He is also survived by his sister Kelly Kelber Edwards and her children Chloe and Carter. He leaves behind cousins, extended family and many friends that loved him and whom he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by grandparents Nelson and Elizabeth Kelber and Clyde Robert and Eileen Allen.

He loved being Jordan's #1 coach and enthusiastic supporter for Jordan's swim meets and watching their favorite teams the Pittsburgh Steelers and NCSU Wolfpack. He also loved presenting flowers to Carson after passionately watching her gymnastics and dancing competitions, giving Carson tight loving hugs and having their special talks. He was so proud of Jordan and Carson's many accomplishments. He was regularly seen at Wolfpack games cheering on his Alma Mater with family. He loved hiking with his children and their dog, Gunter, grilling yummy food for his family, nature and helping others with his big, loving heart. His career had him travel all over the world.

A memorial service will be held at Kevin's earthly spiritual home, Hope Community Church at 821 Buck Jones Rd in Raleigh on Saturday April 9 at 10am. The family invites friends to stay for refreshments after the service. Condolences can be shared online at legacy.com.

I am so saddened to hear of Kevin's passing. I've known Kevin for well over thirty years and am only now beginning to reflect on all the memories we shared. Growing up together in Cary, playing sports, hanging out at Mr. and Mrs. Kelber's house on Whitehall, "pumping iron" at Gold's and CHS weight room and, of course, attending and graduating high school together in '90. While our paths regrettably diverged after CHS (even though we both attended State), I was happy when we recently reconnected over social media. I enjoyed catching up, seeing his pictures and reading his posts. Those made clear the love and devotion he had for his family and friends (and of course Gunter too!) My heart just breaks for his parents, for Kelly, his kids and their mother.

I will not be able to make it down this weekend so I'd simply ask that someone from the CHS family please give Mr. and Mrs. Kelber, Kelly and Kevin's kids--whom I never had the good fortune to meet--a big hug from me. You are all in my thoughts and in my prayers.
Kevin

Baseball cards, baseball fields, wrestling matches during sleepovers, and hanging out pool side: Kevin is an enduring part of the fond memories from my youth. Proud of the family he made and the life he lived as an adult. I miss you my friend.

Kevin, you will forever be on our mind and in our hearts. We know you are in a better place. To your two amazing children, Jordan and Carson, we know you were so extremely proud of their accomplishments. Jordan and Carson, you both already know this but your dad was a great guy, with a huge heart and love of life. Jerry and Sharon, you were always like a second family to Chris, he loves you very dearly and we pray for peace for your family. Kelly, there is nothing like the special bond of a sister who stands by your side unconditionally. Stephanie, you too have always been a true friend and great role model as a mother. We pray for each of you, in your time of loss and sadness. We hope that time will help you all to heal.
