Kevin McGowan Obituary
February 8, 1960 - November 11, 2023
Apex, North Carolina - Kevin Patrick McGowan passed away on November 11, 2023 after an extended illness. He is predeceased by his father, Jim McGowan, mother, Evelyn Flora McGowan, step-mother, Mitzie Balcome McGowan, and brother, David McGowan. He is survived by his sons, Chris and David McGowan, brother, Jim McGowan (Peggy), nephews, Jimmy and Danny McGowan, and former wife, Lib Reid McGowan.
Kevin was born in Fairview, New Jersey and moved to Raleigh in 1971. He graduated Millbrook High School and NC State University and earned an MBA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He worked as a statistical programmer. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid hiker and kayaker. He was a tremendous fan of Pete Townshend of The Who and the Carolina Hurricanes.
The family is planning a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, they ask that a donation be made to the animal rescue group of your choice.

Kevin was a special friend who not only got me in to NCSUs radio station WKNC but showed me the ropes of NC as I came from NJ like he did. Luckily I got one last chance to see him near Cleveland a short time ago. He was really funny and had a great passion for the Who. I just learned of his passing in the NC State alumni magazine. Peace to him in heaven- hopefully they are playing good music there. BP

To his sons, Chris and David,
I cannot in words express my sadness in learning of Kevin's passing. Kevin came into my life when we both joined the Independent Movie club more than ten years ago and I greatly appreciated Kevin's extremely intelligent and nuanced thoughts of so many fine films we reviewed over those years. He grew to be a fantastic friend and confidant over that time. He also often expressed his deep love for his family especially his sons. The premature loss of his younger brother David from Huntington's also deeply affected him and I don't think he ever was the same after his passing.
Sending love and sincere condolences to his two sons. I will miss him greatly.
