Kristen Walker Obituary

Kristen Winters Walker, 30, died Friday, February 13, 2009.
She was born December 17, 1978 in Wake County to Mike and Anne (Terrell) Winters.
The earthly loves of Kristi's life were Chuck and her boys. She spent every day selflessly loving and serving her family. Prior to having children, Kristi taught school in Texas and in Apex. That background prepared her to teach her children about life, but most importantly she taught them to love the Lord. By all accounts Kristi was an excellent mom. We know that God has a great plan for her boys as He decided that He needs her with Him instead of with the boys as they continue to grow. God's ways are higher than our ways.
Kristi gave her life to Christ at an early age and personified the godly woman of Proverbs 31. Throughout her life she was a true example of Christ. Kristi was consumed with a passion for her Heavenly Father and her Lord Jesus Christ. She loved to study God's word and learned to apply it to her daily life. She started each day with a Bible devotion with her boys. She knew that Bible truths were the only way to train and teach our children.
Kristi loved sports. Baylor and Carolina were her favorite teams to watch. Both schools will miss her support. We'll miss the excitement of watching Carolina baseball and basketball together. She was an excellent athlete. She enjoyed playing basketball, volleyball and softball. A three time all conference softball player, she often challenged the notion that boys were better than girls at sports.
Kristi met Chuck on a mission trip to Honduras. Their relationship developed at Baylor and they were married in March, 2001. We give the God the glory for giving Kristi a godly husband and friend. Eight great years of marriage took them from Texas to North Carolina. They developed friendships in both states with some of the finest young people in the world. No couple has ever been blessed with more wonderful friends.
During the last months of Kristi's life after being diagnosed with breast cancer following the birth of her last son, she was served by outstanding medical professionals at UNC and WakeMed Cary. The nursing staff at both hospitals demonstrated compassion beyond obligation. Her attending physician, Dr. Mark Graham cared for her with a passion and diligence that surpasses any the family has seen. His team, within his office and other consulting physicians, cared for Kristi with great skill and love. We thank all of the doctors and nurses at WakeMed Cary who were there for her over these months.
Kristi's friends, church community, and the community at large have been wonderful to her family. Numerous individuals provided food, child care, yard care, prayer support and other acts of care that are greatly appreciated. This community, which includes loving family and friends in Texas and North Carolina, has provided encouragement to all of us and have been a testimony to us of God's love during this trial. We thank everyone who has supported Kristi and us during her illness.
Kristi is survived by her husband of eight years, Chuck Walker of Holly Springs; three boys, Cade Michael Walker, Mason Daniel Walker and Zane Elliott Walker; mother and father, Mike and Anne Winters of Holly Springs; sister, Amy Savage of Raleigh; brother, Matthew Winters of Holly Springs; paternal grandparents, Glenn and Gailya Winters of Cary; maternal grandmother, Lee Goodman of Cary; maternal grandfather, Ben Terrell of Louisburg.
A celebration of her life will be held 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Colonial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Pastor Stephen Davey will preside. A private graveside service will be held earlier on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kristi's memory to Pretty in Pink Foundation, 2501 Blue Ridge Road, Suite 250, Raleigh, NC 27607.
Arrangements through Brown- Wynne Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brownwynne.com

The last few days, God has brought Kristi, Chuck, Cade, Mason and Zane to my mind. I pray that our gracious Father has brought beauty from the ashes of Kristi“s passing and that all have continued to grow in grace. ***2 Corinthians 1***

The God of all comfort-
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 5 For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. 6 If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 7 And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.

Walker and Winters Family. I fell as tho I have lost Kristi also. I am saddened that I never took the time to visit and get to know her while they lived in Texas. Mike and Annie just from reading about Kristi I can understand what Great Parents you were. You raised a loving and caring young woman. Chuck God put you two together and he had plans for Kristi that we do not understand.

Jan Collins is one of my best friends and asked me to pray for Kristi just after her diagnosis. Since then, I have prayed for her and your family several times throughout each week, as I will continue to do. I can't imagine the load you bear, but love you guys and will continue to lift you and the boys up, knowing that He is in this and will work even this for good some how!

I met Kristi through mutual friends while we were at Baylor. When we heard the news of the birth of her new son we rejoiced and began praying often for her healing. My 3 year old daughter would remind us every night to pray for her and ask if she was still sick. We will continue to pray for the Comforter to hold you all through this. Know that her life has served as an inspiration to me to not take a day for granted.

One of Kristi's friends from HS sent this to me. I am heartbroken for your family. Our little Maddie's birthday was also December 17th. Our Maddie had Neuroblastoma cancer and treated for 4 years at St Jude's until age 6. All I can say is though the pain of losing a loved one is so profound, time does heal and our Lord Jesus Christ has been the answer to our healing. Stay true to the Lord with all your might! You will see her again! Praying for peace in the coming days, months and years to husband, kids, parents, family and friends. May the Lord guide you and her light continue to shine on all that know and love her and to those that never knew her until now! What a beautiful Godly woman to admire! Words are not adequate, so I'll just say how very sorry I am for your great loss. There were so many praying for a miracle, but we don't always understand God's plans. We take comfort in knowing that His ways are higher than ours. We will continue praying for all the family, especially Chuck and his beautiful children.

February 16, 2009

It has been an honor to join many, many people who have lifted Christy to the Lord - and you and your kids - during this difficult time. Only God Himself understands at this moment the plans of a future and a hope that he has for you and your little ones - but He does have that. I cannot know the depth of pain that you feel in your loss, but I know so many of us care and will continue to lift you up in the days to come. She was very beautiful. No, she IS very beautiful and even more so in the presence of the Lord. These are the times that we understand Paul's words that we do not grieve as those that have no hope. You will see her again.

May His grace and mercy abound to you and the boys.

Johnny and I were saddened first to hear of Kristi's cancer and then to read about her death. We remember Krista as a beautiful young lady getting ready to attend college. We have not kept up except through friends. Johnny was grateful to see Mike at the benefit McDonald's provided several weeks ago. The obituary and the comments of friends in the guest book help us appreciate what a good wife and mother she has been. Our prayers continue for the Winters and Walker families as you deal with loss in the days and months ahead. God can and will give you strength. Because of Him,

"Someone new has entered our eternal home above-
the heavenly gate has opened wide to welcome one you love. We cannot help the tears that fall-
our hearts need time to grieve when earthly life has ended and a loved one has to leave. Yet even in the saddest time, we know our Savior lives, and we can trust completely in the promise that He gives---
that in a glad reunion with the Lord our loved ones wait
to welcome us in joy with no more tears beyond the gate."

We are deeply saddened
for the family that has lost someone so dear to their hearts.
We rejoice that her earthly life was purpose-filled for her Savior, Jesus.

Dear Winter and Walker Families
You have my deepest sympathies and your families will be in my prayers. I am part of the Sunday School Class at North Pointe Baptist Church and know Sue Yates, as my dear Christian sister. She kept me updated each day and your families have been in my prayers. I also am a member of the Cancer Care Group at North Pointe Baptist church and we kept Kristi and your families in our prayers daily, as well as sending cards. I know your struggles and pain having lost half my family to Cancer. God has our plans and God's will has always been prayed for. God knows each and every tear you have cried and I know God will now hold all of you in HIS Loving arms. What comes to my mind and heart now for all of you is the song I Can only Imagine! What a glorious wonderful eternal life Kristi now has! I pray that God will grant each of you, her family, that same kind of peace and comfort here on earth, until you all will be with her in Heaven. Dear Chuck, Cade, Mason, Zane, Mike, Anne, Amy & Matthew,

We hold all of you in our thoughts and prayers. We count it a privilege to have met Kristi while she was at Baylor. V.Beth and I were blessed to be pastor and wife to you Chuck, then Kristi at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco. We watched your romance blossom, then rejoiced when you joined your lives together in the bond of Christian marriage. We drew comfort from being with Gina (Elliott) and Chu Kim this weekend as we reminisced of Kristi and the beautiful, strong, and caring young woman that she constantly and consistently portrayed...what a role model she was to so many!

We'll be praying that God will hold you in the palm of His strong hand and comfort all of you with His unfailing love, compassion, all-sufficient grace, comfort and strength. How marvelous it is to know of Kristi's presence with Jesus Christ in all of His glory--no more night, no more tears, no more pain! She has heard the words "Well done good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Lord."

"May the peace of Christ Jesus that transcends all understanding guard your hearts and minds" in the days ahead.

Our love, Ron and V.Beth Durham

Dearest Winter & Walker Families. I celebrate Kristi's victory into eternal life and continue to pray for the families, Chuck and the boy's to receive the peace that only comes from the arms of Jesus. I have looked foreward to praying for Kristie and family each day as I arrived to work as I knew of her through a wonderful christian woman I work with who's bible class prayed for her daily and have keep a picture of her, Chuck and the boys beside my desk. I know the loss of a child as I lost my 16 year old son 13 years ago. Therefore I know how God will bless your lives because of all your love for him. He will remain faithful and make good out of her loss to those of you who survive her. I pray you find great encouragement in the book of Job as it helped me struggle with the why's of this life, knowing it is not our eternal home. We love you all and will never meet until some sweet day when we are all called home. May God bless your every breath until then. In Gods Love

I have been praying for Kristi and her entire family each and every day since being notified of her emergency C-section in October. After receiving the CarePages update on Thursday I truly prayed that if God desired her "in His presence more than the presence of her precious family HE would have mercy". We know with complete confidence she is in the presence of her Heavenly Father with NO pain, NO fear, and NO tears. May her family be comforted by the prayers of many, the promises of GOD, and the knowledge that some day they will be reunited with her! Continuing to pray for a supernatural PEACE and COMFORT to cover the entire family. In Christ, Vickie Stanley

Chuck & Family,
Kristi was a great woman of God and a wonderful role model. She will be missed a great deal. We thank the Lord for the time we had with you both. Thank the Lord that she is safe and happy and we will all see her again in Heaven. We love you and will continue to pray for you all. God Bless

The true character of someone is surely displayed when one experiences such difficult circumstances such as what Kristi had to endure. Kristi's hope in the God of the Universe and all that is in it, was evident even in her last days. She had a quiet and confident spirit as she endured unpleasant circumstances. I had the priviledge of meeting Kristi during her hospitalization as well as some of her family members and am grateful for that opportunity. Kristi was definately a remarkable person who knew a remarkable God! May He be glorified as her memory lives on. With love, Stephanie Baker,PT

My deepest condolences to the Walker and Winters families. I never had the pleasure of meeting Kristi, but I have been following her story and praying for her daily. What an impact this young woman made in her short time here. You have truly suffered a great loss on this earth, but a new, and very bright star will now illuminate the night sky. I will continue to pray for the healing of those left behind.

To the Walker and Winter families: I knew of Kristi through my dear friend Sue Yates in Texas. My family and the Bible study groups at the Clonmel Baptist Church have been praying for her throughout her ordeal and for the whole family. We are so saddened by her loss, but joyful that she is with the Lord and her suffering is over. She has touched so many lives and I believe her faith will continue to touch hearts. God has taken her home to be with Him, but her faith will live on in her children and family. May God richly bless all of you and give you comfort.

Dear family,
I first met Kristen at a Bible Study we were both attending. She was always friendly and kept a smile on her face. She loved to discuss God's Word. I was so saddened by the news of her illness and passing. Although I didn't know her well, I could tell that she loved life, her family and our Lord. She will be greatly missed.

Dear Walker and Winters Families,

Please accept our sincere condolences over your great loss.

You do not know us but we first learned about Kristi through our Sunday School class (Catacomb class) at First Houston Baptist Church last year. We bonded with Kristi and family of faith in prayer and always looked forward hearing updates about her progress with great anticipation. Kristi has touched our lives through her strong faith and courageous fight against cancer. Her life is a sweet aroma to the Lord.

Know that we are with you in prayer.

Yours in Christ,

Our hearts are broken for you as you endure this great loss. Yet we rejoice with you as we know that Kristi is once more healthy and restored beyond even the shining young woman this world knew her to be. If possible, heaven is an even brighter place since she arrived.
