Lane Montgomery Obituary
November 19, 1935 - January 31, 2024
Raleigh, North Carolina - Lane Montgomery passed away peacefully in Raleigh, NC on January 31, 2024. She was born in New Bern, NC, on November 19, 1935, to Leo and Laura Harvey of Kinston, NC, her childhood home. They predeceased her as did her sister, Laura Harvey Weyher.
Her favorite memories as a young girl were those spent on the water at Morehead, water skiing and fishing off the docks. She attended St. Mary School and went on to study at UNC Chapel Hill. Her studies at Finch College introduced her to New York City, where she would thrive for over 50 years.
Lane lived The Life Fantastic - a world traveler, accomplished artist, writer, and photographer. Her life was energized by her curiosity and her many passions. She had no use for the mundane.
Among her many accomplishments were starring in the Spoleto Festival production of "Zelda", and authoring "Never Again, Again, Again, … Genocide: Armenia, The Holocaust, Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Darfur", for which she was a celebrated presenter on Google Talks.
Her artist's eye and passion for supporting human rights in Africa, took her on photographic assignments with Doctors without Borders, The International Rescue Committee, and Americares. She is represented by Getty Images, Editorial division, in both the US and UK.
Lane is survived by her two daughters, Bryan Yorke, St. Petersburg, FL, and Laura Yorke, New York City, her beloved grandsons, Richard Elliott Snyder, Jr., and Coleman Lawson Yorke, and nephew, Leo Harvey Kirk, Greensboro, NC.
There will be a celebration of life service in Kinston at a future date.
