Linda Isley Obituary

Linda Vines Cobb Isley, 84, of Cary, formerly of Wilmington, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at Western Wake Medical Center, Cary. Linda was born January 8, 1925, in Pinetops, daughter of the late John Vines Cobb and Ida Ruth Pitt Cobb. Her husband, Robert W. Isley, Jr., preceded her in death. Mrs. Isley grew up in Pinetops, NC, graduating first from Peace College and then from the University of NC, Chapel Hill with a teaching degree. She taught high school history. Her loves and passions included her kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her interests also included her family’s genealogy, history especially civil war history, high school and college sports and current events. She was an active Presbyterian all her life. She is survived by four children, Lin Stewart of Concord, Bob Isley III and wife, Susan of Brewster, NY, John Isley and wife, Tara of Lewiston, ID, Bill Isley of Cary; six grandchildren, Jennifer Al-Hussaini and husband, Jimmy, Suzanne Stewart, Allison Stewart, Robert C. Isley, Madison and Kaitlyn Isley; three great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Julia, and Jack Al-Hussaini; sister, Sally Andrews; brother, Vines Cobb. The family wishes to thank Heartfields Assisted Living in Cary for their care and support as well as the staff and team at Western WakeMed Hosp. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2009, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, Wilmington, NC 28412. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2009, at Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Myrtle Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 800 Piner Road, Wilmington, NC 28409, or Peace College, 15 East Peace Street, Raleigh, NC 27604-1194.
