Lionel Collins Obituary

Lionel Mills Collins

January 22, 1952 - June 9, 2017

Pikeville

Lionel Mills Collins, 65, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Friday, June 9, 2017. He was born in Goldsboro, NC to Willie Daniel and Mary Pauline Rose Collins on January 22, 1952.

A service to celebrate Lionel's life will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Clayton Sutton officiating. The family will greet friends Monday following the service at the funeral home and other times at his home. Interment will be on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Princeton Cemetery.

Lionel was known as a quiet man, but his laugh was full and contagious. He worked with Big Star until joining the Army for several years. After returning to Goldsboro from his military service, he worked with Nahunta Pork Center, drove trucks with several companies including Schneider, and spent 15 years working with Bridgestone/Firestone. He enjoyed reading, auctions, yard sales, and most importantly spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Pauline. He is survived by his wife, Karen Perkins Collins; daughter, Miranda Mooring and husband Darby of Pikeville, daughter, Christy Duval and husband Danny of Gulf Port, MS, and son, Danny Edgerton and wife Melissa of Pikeville. Grandchildren, Megan Mooring, Collin Beasley, Audawen Mooring, Malaya Mooring, Courtney Duval, Hunter Duval, Justin Edgerton, Tyson Edgerton, and Anderson Edgerton. His sister, Georgie Margaret Collins Gross and husband Harold Gross of Graham, NC and his furry companion Snowball.

The family would like to extend special gratitude to Dr. Young Whang, the UNC Chapel Hill staff, and his Pinkney Missionary Baptist Church family. Flowers are appreciated, but donations can be made to Pinkney Missionary Baptist Church.

We are so sorry for your great loss and are happy we visited y'all while he was in hospice care. He was tired then, but his spirits were high! Since we always seem to be running into each other in our friendly Walmart, I will miss seeing the two of you together. But I still look forward to running into you! Hugs and cousin kisses, Karen. Love you!!
