Liz Holm Obituary

Elizabeth Catherine Curtis Holm
October 27, 1959 - September 19, 2013
Chapel Hill
After a sudden illness, Liz Holm passed away peacefully at UNC Hospital surrounded by family, friends and music on Thursday, September 19th at sundown. She was preceded in death by her mother Marilou (Mimi) Barns Curtis and her brother Freddie Curtis. She is survived by her father Dr. Thomas Curtis, her daughter Jennifer Kelso Curtis, her sisters Susan Jane and Theresa Curtis, her niece Carmen Biggers, and her nephews Brown Biggers, JT and Jamey Sauls. Liz was born on October 27th, 1959 in Chapel Hill, NC, graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 1978 and from Randolph Community College in 1983, with a degree in Graphic Design. If one can measure their wealth by the number and devotion of one's friends, then Liz had wealth beyond measure. She was famously genuine and generous, a friend to all. Her sublime sense of humor, her artistic sensitivity and the poetry she expressed in the everyday acts of simply living, laughing and working were a phenomenon that enlightened and influenced everyone she met. Liz was passionate about visual art and design, music, animals, and sacred natural places- all while maintaining very close and loving relationships throughout her life. An award winning Graphic designer, Liz's career flourished in California and North Carolina. Locally, she spent many years working for the Village Advocate (Vilcom), the Independent Weekly, the Carrboro Citizen and most recently the Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill. Liz had a gift for inspiring artistic collaborations and connecting kindred spirits. Her intuition and wisdom brought smiles of gratitude throughout the community. Her spirit will shine on. How appropriate that those she had to leave behind took comfort in the light of the lavish Harvest Moon that shone on the night she passed away. A celebration of Liz' amazing life will be held on Sunday, October 6th, 3pm at the Haw River Ball Room, Saxapahaw, NC. Liz, I was thinking of you yesterday morning and I received the news later that day from a Chapel Hill friend. I wondered why you were on my mind after all those years gone by. You were saying good-bye old friend. We were good friends in high school and you cared about me, you helped me get back to school by taking me on a tour of RTCC and later that night went to a Stevie Ray Vaughan concert in Greensboro. I will remember your smile and the way you would laugh.

Liz, I wish I could have reconnected with you after all these years. I remember even in the fourth grade a person who wasn't afraid to voice her own opinion and always stood her ground. You told me on numerous occasions you thought I looked like Roger Daltrey of The Who-which I always took as a tremendous compliment! We will toast you at the reunion. Rest in peace

Liz, we love you and will miss you! Thanks for all the laughs and smiles along the way. You were a great athlete (remembering dodge-ball and kick-ball at Estes Elementary, Sunset soccer), great artist and musician (remember always asking you to play Bouree on your flute!). You were a great friend. Thanks old friend!
