Loren Kennedy Obituary

Loren Stetson Kennedy

December 11, 1942 - June 25, 2025

Raleigh, North Carolina - Loren Stetson Kennedy, 82, died on June 25, 2025. He was born on December 11, 1942 in Miami, Florida to William Stetson Kennedy, author and social activist and Edith Ogden Kennedy, a stunning beauty from Key West. He is survived by his "baby", known to others as his wife and partner of 50 years, Barbara Brown Kennedy. They met in in Atlanta in 1975. He always celebrated Barbara's "mix of independent thinking, ambition, unwavering ethics and a desire to help others.

He is also survived by his only son, Sean Stetson Kennedy, wife, Jennifer Kennedy and grandson Stetson Kennedy, of Wycoff, NJ.

Loren's childhood was characterized by moving every year until the 7th grade as he moved back and forth between his divorced parents. He lived in a walk-up apartment in Harlem in NYC, an old boat in the Florida Keys, an old converted Trailways bus in Jacksonville, Florida and an alley apartment in Miami. His boyhood reaction to his unsettled experiences was, "How interesting all of the different people are."

He admits to not ever being disciplined in his studies, but he managed to graduate from The University of Miami with a BA in 1967. He had three long term jobs after school, with Xerox Corporation in Miami, Tallahassee and Atlanta; Cushman & Wakefield in Chicago and finally Kennedy Advisors, LLC which he founded in Raleigh.

Loren will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. He had a way with words and could effortlessly capture the meaning of a thought and get it down on paper. Always dapperly dressed, he never left the house without every hair in place.

A remembrance of Loren will be held in August. Donation can be made in his honor to the charity of your choice or The Alzheimer Asso.
