Louis Sedaris Obituary

Louis H. Sedaris
April 5, 1923 - May 22, 2021
Raleigh, North Carolina - Louis H. Sedaris of Raleigh died May 22, 2021 at the age of 98. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 1 at 11:00 at the Greek Orthodox Church on Lead Mine Road.
A native of Cortland, New York, Lou was the son of Diamante and Hercules Sedaris, both from Apethia in Southern Greece. As a boy, he worked in his parents' magazine store and shoeshine shop. In high school, he was the captain of the varsity football team. He joined the US Navy during the Korean War and was stationed on the U.S.S. Kalousa Hatchee where he repaired electronic equipment. After 2.5 years in the Navy, he went to college on the GI Bill. He attended Syracuse University where he studied engineering and was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
In 1941, he began his career at IBM where he stayed for 38 years working as a mechanical engineer. Early in his career, he worked on mainframe data storage. One of his later projects was retail point-of-sale systems.
Lou, always an athlete, went spinning at Lifetime Sports until he was 93- always setting an example of self-care. He had a passion for fly-fishing and frequently fished in Alaska and British Columbia. He loved golf and collecting art. He painted for many years and his paintings hang in his home.
Lou is survived by daughters, Lisa S. Evans, Gretchen E. Sedaris and Amy L. Sedaris; sons, David R. Sedaris and Paul A. Sedaris; and granddaughter Madelyn Sedaris.
His wife Sharon Sedaris and daughter Tiffany J. Sedaris predecease him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church, 5000 Lead Mine Road, Raleigh, NC, 27612.

Dear Family of Lou Sedaris,
I often heard my late dear friend,George Georgallis speak so fondly of your father.I know they were IBMers together and fellow Greeks, but felt also there was a great deal of admiration and friendship.
I remember meeting Lou and Amy at the Greek Festival years ago.
George passed in 2010 and he is certainly missed.
I am very sorry you have lost this wonderful man!

I took countless spinning classes with Lou over the years. His dry wit and charm carried us over many miles (in place.) So sorry to hear of his passing. He was an inspiration.
