Loyall Corey Obituary

Loyall B. Corey

Robersonville

Loyall B. Corey of Robersonville died Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Vidant Hospital in Tarboro, N. C after a lengthy illness. He was born to John Lloyd Corey and Lina Leggett Corey and lived most of his life in the Stokes and Robersonville communities. He graduated from Stokes High School in 1951.

He married Barbara Mayes of Four Oaks, N. C. on February 27, 1953. After serving in the Army from 1954-1955 in Washington state, he returned to Robersonville and began farming. He farmed until retiring in 1989.

Loyall was preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers John Lloyd and Allen Corey, brother-in-law Alton Johnson and sister-in-law Janelle W. Corey.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Corey, his son Loyall Corey, Jr. of Robersonville, his daughter Phyllis Braswell and her husband Marvin Moss of Fuquay-Varina, grandson Brantly Brodt Braswell Jr. and his fiancée Allessandra Smolek of Raleigh, his sisters Sylvia Corey of Greenville and Lessie Johnson of Stokes and sister-in-law Shirley Corey of Robersonville.

Loyall was an active and long standing member of the First Baptist Church of Robersonville. He and his brother Allen did the work paving the parking lots at the church. Loyall liked to walk at the track later in life and dug trenches to keep rain water from ponding on the walking track. When he saw something that needed to be done, he jumped in and did it. He liked to keep his crops looking good, especially the ones beside the highway that people could see.

In his later years, he liked to sit on the deck under the tree that he planted years ago and look out over the farm.

He was a faithful husband, devoted father and family man. His beloved grandson gave him the nickname "Big Tractor" which he proudly answered to for the last 27 years of life.

The family wants to thank his caregivers in the last months of his life: Mrs. Virginia Peele, Pam Stox, and Brenda Davidson.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at the Robersonville First Baptist Church by the Rev. Randall Woodard officiating. Burial will follow at Martin Memorial Gardens.

Can't help but recognize the appropriateness of his name, Loyall. He was loyal to his family, loyal to his community and loyal to his church. I always thought that he was a good man, a good husband, a good father and a good member of his church and community. We need more like him.
