Lucy Jones Obituary

Lucy Plummer Jones, died at Louisburg Nursing Center, January 24, 2008. She was born in Franklin County to the late Joseph Broomfield Jones and Laura Egerton Jones, September 24, 1914. The family moved to Henderson and she graduated from Henderson High School then attended Woman's College (UNC-G).
Lucy went to work at Rose's Stores in 1935 and retired in 1978 as one of the top toy buyers in the country. She received many honors and awards during her career. She appeared on the cover of the National Toy Magazine as the "First Lady of Toys" and was given a dinner and dance at Brandeis University where a scholarship was established in her name.
After her retirement, she was an advisor to Mattel Toys in California. She was very well liked by all her salesmen, because she treated them fairly, and many became life-long personal friends.
She owned a condominium at Ormond Beach, FL, and moved there permanently for 20 years after her mother's death with whom she lived and looked after until her death. Lucy loved life, and lived it to the fullest; always the life of the party. She moved to Louisburg Nursing Center in the spring of 1998.
She was very fond of her two nieces and great-nephew and great niece, and they have fond memories of her.
She is survived by her nieces, Frances Hill (Bill), and Lucy E. Jones, both of Louisburg; great nephew, Maurice Hill (Angie) of Youngsville, and great niece, Elizabeth Hill Wilbourne (Doug) and Evan and (Annie) of Louisburg. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Hugh E. and Frances M. Jones of Henderson.
Memorial service will be conducted by Dr. Reggie Rushing at Lancaster Funeral Home, 804 N. Bickett Boulevard, Louisburg at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 27, 2008. The family will greet guests immediately following the service; and at all other times at the home of Frances and Bill Hill, 102 King Circle, Louisburg. Burial will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Philathea Neighbors Fund, Louisburg Baptist Church, PO Box 730, Louisburg, NC 27549 or to the charity of one's choice.

To: Frances, Bill and Family

My deepest sympathy to you and all your family for this great loss. Miss Lucy was one of the Greatest People in the World and I will always remember and talk about the times spent with her. Over the years, I've saved all my articles...namely one, I have the Toys magazine that has her cartoon picture on the cover. My memories of this wonderful Lady will always be cherished. Your family will be remembered in my prayers.
