Lucy Powers Yates, age 88, died on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at Hillside Nursing Center in Wake Forest.
She was born in Bennettsville, SC, but spent most of her life in Raleigh. In 1980, she and her husband, Bob Yates, moved to Greensboro, NC, where Lucy worked as a purchasing agent for Dillard Paper Company. In 1992, after Bob and Lucy retired, they returned to Raleigh.
Survivors include her four daughters: Kathy Tyndall and her husband Frank of Wake Forest; Binky Haley and her husband David of Knightdale; Margaret Glass and her husband Rob of Lexington, SC; and Susan Gressel and her husband Scott of Raleigh. Also left to cherish her memory are ten grandchildren: Tim Tyndall, David (Jessica) Tyndall, Mary Kathryn (Hank) Keleher, Vickie (Scott) Hoelzle, Lindsey (Todd) Reiner, Drew (Katie) Pearce, Robert (Morgan) Glass, Kathryn Glass, Eric (Randi) Gressel, and Will (Rachel) Gressel. Great grandchildren include: Michael, Emma, and Thomas Keleher; Clair and Yates Tyndall; Olivia Hoelzle; Riley and Aubrey Reiner; Evelyn and Lydia Pearce; Garrison Glass; and Ashton Gressel.
Lucy is predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Robert R. Yates, her father and mother, Charles Wesley and Lucinda Vernon Powers, her step-father, Eugene D. Boney, sister Margaret Brooks, and brothers Harris and Vernon Powers.
A private family memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Hal Melton of Trinity Baptist Church and Rev. David Haley, son-in-law of Lucy Yates.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Hillside Nursing Center for the exceptional care, concern, and support they provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Building Fund of Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609.
