Margaret Herrington Obituary

Margaret McLeod Herrington, died peacefully on the afternoon of December 17th, 2000 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. She was 68.
Mrs. Herrington had been active in numerous civic and community service organizations in Chapel Hill. She worked to establish the Pediatric Teaching Program, and served on the Board of Directors of the Hospital Auxiliary at the UNC Hospitals. She served on the first board of directors for the Orange County Habitat for Humanity, and was presented The Cup of Service award in 1971 for outstanding volunteerism by the Chapel Hill Junior Service League. She was also very active in the Holy Family Episcopal Church where she served on the vestry, was a senior warden, and was the founding chair of the Augustine Project Board.
Mrs. Herrington was the daughter of the late John F. and Eva Teal McLeod of Chesterfield, SC. She attended Queens College in Charlotte, NC where she earned a degree in education. After graduation, she taught in the public schools in Seattle, WA. She was co-owner of Pace Gifts in Chapel Hill for the past 12 years. Except for brief periods, she resided in Chapel Hill since 1957.
Mrs. Herrington is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dr. Robert T. Herrington of Chapel hill; brother, John F. McLeod, Jr. of Chesterfield, SC; sister, Elizabeth M. Huntley of Mandarin, FL.;son, David and wife, Dierdre of Winston-Salem; son, Robert and wife, Bonny of Raleigh; daughter, Carson of Arlington, VA; grandchildren, Daniel and Kristen of Winston-Salem.
The burial liturgy will be said at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20th at the Church of the Holy Family, 200 Hayes Road in Chapel Hill.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Church of the Holy Family, memo: The Augustine Project.
Arrangements by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh, NC.
