Davidson, North Carolina - Margaret Stafford Martin Holcombe of The Pines at Davidson, Davidson, NC passed away on September 17th, 2023.

She was born February 4, 1934, in Clinton, NC. She is preceded in death by her parents; Thomas Keith Stafford (Father); Dorothy Warren Stafford (Mother); and Marvin "Buck" Holcombe (Husband).

Margaret graduated from Peace Junior College in 1954 and went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Elon College in 1956. Soon after college, she married Wayne Watkins Martin, and the early years of their marriage included residential stops in Upstate New York and Birmingham, Alabama before settling in Morganton, North Carolina.

Margaret dedicated herself to elementary education for an impressive 30-year teaching career. Her teaching journey began at Highlands Day School in Birmingham, AL, from 1964 to 1966. She continued to inspire young students at Forrest Hills Elementary School in Morganton, NC, from 1967 to 1986, and later at Sea Brook Elementary in Fayetteville, NC, from 1987 to 1994.

On December 28th, 1991, Margaret celebrated the start of a new chapter in her life as she married Buck Holcombe. Margaret and Buck enjoyed many years in retirement at their home in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. During this time Margaret reconnected with many high school friends and enjoyed reminiscing of the memories they created at the beach.

Margaret had a wonderful zest for life. She had a passion for reading and she cherished her time in Ocean Drive in North Myrtle Beach. Throughout her life, she made lasting friendships and cherished memories. She will be remembered by those that knew her as a sweet and caring person with a wonderful sense of humor and a love for sports. When Margaret made the transition to The Pines at Davidson, she continued to make many wonderful friendships. Her family is especially grateful for the staff and the friends she made during her years at The Pines.

The main focus of Margaret's life, however, was her children. She is survived by her loving children; Elizabeth Martin Finein (Tim), William Watkins Martin, and John Stafford Martin; as well as two grandchildren; Ian Stafford Martin and Scotland Elizabeth Martin.

Margaret will be remembered for her truly strong work ethic, her love for the beach, and, most importantly, her profound love for family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, compassion, and cherished memories that will forever be treasured by all that were fortunate enough to know her.

There will be a Memorial Service at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Saturday, October 14th, 2023 at 12:00 Noon. In Lieu of Flowers memorial gifts can be made to The Pines at Davidson Resident Support Fund or St Stephen's Episcopal Church in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
