Mark Joyner Obituary

Mark L. Joyner

June 29, 1958 ~ December 9, 2017

Louisburg

Mark Lynn Joyner, 59, of Louisburg passed away unexpectedly on, Saturday, December 9, 2017 at his home. Born on June 29, 1958 to E. Carroll and Margaret Edwards Joyner. Mark was intelligent and witty, he loved the outdoors, food, all kinds of music, the beach and relaxing with his daughters, wife and friends at his home. Mark was the Chief Technology Officer at Louisburg College and member of Louisburg United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir also a member of the Louisburg Lions serving as past president and currently as treasurer.

Mark began working at Louisburg College in 2003 and shepherded the College into the 21st Century by establishing the technology infrastructure that the College relies on for operation today. As the Chief Technology Officer, Mark was constantly dreaming of the next big innovation he could implement to better educate students, to provide tools to faculty, and to support staff in their various roles. Mark also served as the "Voice of the Hurricanes," announcing and live streaming countless athletic events and providing tech and sound services for the Allen de Hart Concert Series. Through his work, Mark's dedication to the College was unquestionable, but, more than anything, Mark was a beloved, irreplaceable colleague who was always willing to lend a hand and crack a joke to brighten someone's day.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Louisburg United Methodist Church with Reverend Mike Safley officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Mark is survived by his wife, Mary Rose Joyner; father, E. Carroll Joyner and step-mother, Brenda; mother, Margaret Joyner; daughters, Lindsay "Slone" Joyner and Lauren "Larue" Joyner; and brother, Edward Carroll Joyner, Jr.

Please allow me to express my deepest sympathies to the entire Joyner family. Mark was a good friend of mine for many years. I will always treasure the many laughs and experiences we had together while working at the college. God broke the mold when he made Mark. He was just a great guy, and I will miss him for the rest of my life!
