Martha Thompson Obituary

Martha Jane Smith Thompson, 87, died Monday, April 22, 2002. She was born December 6, 1914 in La Plata, Missouri, daughter of the late Stella Elizabeth Burns and Dr. T. Paul Smith. She was the widow of Herman Herboth, III.
She graduated with a B.S. Degree in elementary education from The Normal School, which is now Truman University in Kirksville, Missouri. She was an active member of Lakeside Baptist Church, 20th Century Study Club and the PEO.
She is survived by her husband, Morris Thompson; two daughters, Heidi Palmer of Roanoke, Virginia and Helen Laughery of Rocky Mount; son-in-law, Jack A. Laughery; five step-children and a host of loving grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at Lakeside Baptist Church, with Dr. Jody Wright officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of Helen and Jack Laugher, 1730 Hunter Hill Road, Rocky Mount.
Memorialcontributions may be made to Lakeside Baptist Church, 1501 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 or Rocky Mount Academy, 1313 Avondale Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27803.
