Mary Seith Obituary

Mary Shepherd Seith

February 23, 1950 - September 18, 2023

Irvine, California - On Monday, September 18, 2023, Mary Elizabeth Shepherd Seith passed away peacefully in Irvine, CA, in her home of 30 years. Her husband, William B. Seith (Bill), and her son, William A. Seith (Will) were at her side. Her daughter, Michelle M. McCabe, was also present via phone call.

Mary was known for her big heart, wonderful laugh, and love of family, friends, and her home state of North Carolina.

Mary also loved Lake Tahoe, and this summer, she had a last trip with her husband, children, and grandchildren to the place that provided over 40 years of treasured moments for our family. Over the preceding weeks before her passing, Mary received love, prayers, and support from her extended family and friends, along with visits from both her children.

Mary was born in 1950 in Annapolis, Maryland, but spent most of her youth in Raleigh, North Carolina. In 1968, she graduated from Needham Broughton High School with many lifelong friends and fond memories, including being voted Queen of Hearts her senior year. In 1972, Mary graduated from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She married Bill soon after, and they started their life together in northern Virginia, where she began her career in Interior Design amongst the political elite of Washington, DC.

After moving to California, Mary dedicated her life to raising her family and serving her community through many national and local charities. She applied her creativity and love of design to all facets of her life, resulting in many beautiful and memorable experiences for those she loved. Her sense of style was a compass that guided our family in many ways, and that influence will continue.

Mary is survived by Bill, her husband of 51 years; her two children, Michelle and Will; her 3 grandchildren, Madeline, Ryan, and Edith McCabe; and her brother, Marshall Gordon Shepherd.

Mary succumbed in part to long-term complications from diabetes, so in place of flowers, we would be grateful for any donation you might care to make to the American Diabetes Association:

Mary was my classmate in the seventh grade at Daniels Junior High (now Oberlin Middle School) on through Broughton High School and then UNC-Greensboro for two years. Even at age 12, Mary was "the fairest of the fair". Everyone in our classroom was either in the orchestra/strings or the band (no marching involved!); Mary and I were flutists. Seeing her obituary has been a harsh reminder of the passage of time. I offer my deepest sympathy and condolences to her family and other loved ones.

Bill and family--Mary was a classmate of mine at Broughton and also for two years at UNCG. She was truly beautiful, inside and out, and I always enjoyed keeping up with your family through your annual Christmas cards. Please know that you are all in my prayers and may precious Mary rest in peace. With sincerity, Mary Webb Baggett

My heart is saddened that Mary has gone on to Glory. I found this picture of a "moving" moment in So Cal when I was a boy. I really do not recall the circumstances of the event, but I know that Mary and Bill have been very good to my all of my life. And I want the Seith Family to know how appreciative I am... Thank you and hugs to you all!
