Maurice Rosch Obituary

Maurice Charles Rosch

Yonkers, NY

Maurice Charles Rosch died on October 29th 2014. He was born on October 11, 1915 in NYC and grew up in Yonkers, NY. He was predeceased by his parents Samuel and May Rosch, his beloved sister Gertrude Linett, and his daughter in law Alice Lepie. He is survived by the love of his life Bea Rosch, his wife of 68 years; his brother Paul Rosch MD; sons Elliott Rosch MD and Joel Rosch Ph.D; daughter in law Carol Vatz; grandchildren Jacob Rosch, Anna Rosch and her husband Isaac Wolf; and great granddaughter Alice Rosch, born just weeks before his death.

Maurice graduated from Gorton HS, New York University and later from the Harvard Business School where he received an MBA degree. A decorated veteran, Maurice became a "90 day wonder" commanding infantry platoons as a First Lieutenant during WWII. He served with distinction in three campaigns and was wounded at Monte Cassino, where he was decorated for bravery, Anzio, and the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded three Purple Hearts. Prior to his military service he was the first person win the Westchester County tennis championship three years in a row (1935 – 1937) and retire the Franics T. Hunter Bowl.

As part of the "greatest generation," after the war he joined his illustrious business school classmates in helping create the vibrant post war American economy. A successful business man, after involvement in a variety of business ventures he started and ran a manufacturing company and later had a successful career on Wall Street where he advised private clients, mutual funds, and charitable organizations.

He was an accomplished violinist, and despite his war wounds, played competitive tennis well into his 80's, when he took up golf at Elmwood Country Club. He was an active member of the Lincoln Park Jewish Center as well as numerous civic organizations in his beloved hometown, Yonkers New York. Up to the end he enjoyed fine food, good cigars, cognac, and very old scotch, often provided by his son Elliott, his brother Paul and his many friends. Most of all he was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather who will be missed, especially by his extended family including his many nieces and nephews, cousins, and his many friends. The family wants to thank Cathy, Delores, Lula, and Theresa for the fine care they provided to Maurice. The way Maurice lived his life continues to be an inspiration to all who knew him. He will surely be counted among the righteous.

What wonderful memories I have of a man who was always interested in what I had to say and what I was doing. I was a very young college student when we met, and he always treated me as if I was the only one in the room. I had the pleasure of spending time with Maurice and Bea through the years after his grandchildren were born and I always smile when I think of those times. He was fascinating, engaging, joyful and always had a great story to share. I am happy he had a chance to meet baby Alice and my sincere and heartfelt condolences to Joel, Elliot, Bea, Carol, Jacob, Anna, Isaac and Alice. I love you all very much and know that we often think of Maurice whenever we drive up and down I-95 and whenever we see Honey Navel oranges. You were loved, Mr. Rosch!
