Megan Heidt Obituary

Megan Beam Heidt
June 6, 1924 - November 23, 2012
Raleigh
Megan Guest Beam Heidt passed peacefully to be with her Lord on November 23, 2012 at the Oaks of Mayview in Raleigh North Carolina.
Megan was the daughter of the late Henkel and Augusta Beam. She was born in Crouse NC and lived her childhood on the family farm.
At 18, Megan left the farm and moved to Asheville, NC where she worked for Postal Accounts during World War II, married Herbert A. Wallace, and became an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Megan opened Wallace Day Nursery in the family home on Hillside Street. Her first daughter, Nedra Hallin was born in 1952 and a second daughter Lisa followed in 1954. The daughters were raised alongside all the other children in the nursery, and both grew up helping their mother. Although Megan had to divide her attention and love with lots of other children, she was always available to Nedra and Lisa. Megan kept her business open for 21 years, beginning each day with a Bible Story, providing loving arms, lots of space to run and play, education, and a strong faith in God. Many of Asheville's children passed through those doors and still cherish memories of their times with Megan. She touched many lives in a way that is not forgotten.
In 1977 Megan married Herb Heidt. They lived on Oak Island and Megan enjoyed many summer days there, especially with her first grandson Nigel Wilson. These years with Herb were some of her happiest, as she enjoyed the slower pace of the beach, her neighbors and her church. Megan and Herb also thoroughly enjoyed traveling. While living on Oak Island she was an active member of Saint Peter Lutheran Church.
After Herb's death, she moved to a retirement community near Raleigh to be closer to family. She lived six years at Windsor Point, enjoying the fellowship of many new friends. She participated in all the activities, was a member of the Red Hat Society, hosted many parties, and organized her own Saturday morning breakfast club. She was a devoted friend and companion to many people at Windsor Point, always spending time with those sick or in need. She joined Abiding Presence Lutheran Church in Fuquay-Varina.
In her later years, Megan moved into the home of her daughter Lisa and son-in-law Paul near Garner, NC.
Megan was preceded in death by both parents, siblings Harlee Beam, Pat Heavner, Doris Nelson, and Mahn Loy. She is survived by her sister Hallin Coolidge Heavner of Shelby, daughter Nedra Hallin Wallace-Wilson and husband Mark Wilson of Black Mtn., daughter Lisa Wallace and husband Paul Bryson of Raleigh, grandchildren Nigel Wilson of Wilmington, Cody Bryson of Garner, and Katherine Tess Wilson of Wilmington.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff and friends at the Oaks of Mayview along with her loving and dedicated companions, Sabrina, Valerie, Diane, Monika, and Tory.
A Memorial service to honor Megan will be held at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church at 7300 Sunset Lake Rd., Fuquay-Varina, NC on Sunday December 9, 2012 at 3PM. Family will receive friends immediately following the service. Flowers are welcome as well as donations to Hospice of Wake County or Abiding Presence APPLE Seeds Preschool in Megan's honor.
Megan was a remarkable woman, a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother. Her life was an example of hard work, perseverance, courage, and faith. She will be missed.

I don't have the words to say how much she will be missed. Our family over the years attended church with her, went on river cruises with her( she insisted on using her senior discount), and sat on her backporch for hours on visits. There is even a long odd story on how she is the reason our preacher has his black belt in Kung fu. Her life has touched more people then you will ever know. She will be missed greatly. Royce

I loved your mom and have such fond memories of her. I worked at the daycare one summer in high school and loved every minute. My thoughts are with you, Nedra and Lisa, and your families. Rest in peace in God,s loving arms. Betty Jo (Barger) Taylor

Dear Nedra and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I am so sad for Nigel and Kate to lose both grandmothers within a week. It was good to see all of you and I will continue to pray for your family.
