Melissa Anderson Obituary

Melissa Tucker Anderson
October 20, 1970- June 23, 2011
Sammamish, WA
Melissa Tucker Anderson 40, passed away at her home in Sammamish, WA on Thursday June 23rd. Her husband, Neal, was at her side. Melissa was born in Archdale, North Carolina and graduated from Trinity High School in 1988. She later attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and graduated with a BS in Psychology.
Melissa's life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her dignity and grace, understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. During her long illness, she gave us all such courage and hope. Her hobbies included photography and hiking the scenic Northwest along with her husband, Neal and their faithful, loving German shepherd, Gandalf.
Melissa touched the lives of many people through her photography and written accounts of their adventures which serve as a monument to her determination and courage. Melissa also devoted much of her time to the rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife in the Seattle area, and also volunteer work as a tutor in local schools.
In addition to her husband, Neal, she is survived by her mother, Barbara Fulcher and her husband, Dalton, of Archdale and father, Ron Tucker and his wife, Cheryl, of Lexington. Also surviving is a brother, Jeremy Tucker and his wife Jennifer of Archdale along with Melissa's very special nieces and nephew, Gracie, Lilly, Olivia and Ethan. Also surviving are: half brother, Brandon Wardell of New York and two half sisters, Jorja Smith and Courtney Tucker of Lexington.
Melissa is also survived by her much beloved in-laws, Elizabeth Anderson, of Raleigh, Dreama and Neal Anderson Senior of Greensboro, and brother in law Walter Anderson.
A memorial service, a celebration of Melissa's life, will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church at 11:00 am on July 9th. The church is located at 108 West Farriss Avenue in High Point. The family will be available for visitation, at the church, immediately following the service.
Donations can be made in Melissa's name to The Nature Conservancy. Melissa was involved in several charities but this organization help to preserve the places that she loved so much.

I had the great fortune of working with Melissa through some of her medical treatments, and she impressed from the git-go til the end. Such brightness, such charm, such strong will, and such obvious delight in your company, Neal. To the outsider looking in, you & Melissa epitomized a loving relationship. I wish you all the strength you need to heal.

To the Family. No one is ever totally prepared for the death of a loved one. May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. May you have peace.

Upon meeting Melissa, I knew she was a one of a kind - super special person. A kind spirit - concerned about the comfort of others. Her determination was like none other - I'll think about her sweetness and determination when I'm out hiking or taking the stairs at work. She left a beautiful imprint on this earth. I'll see you on the other side, Melissa - Love, Donna
