I was sorry to learn of Michael's passing and extend my heartfelt condolences to his family. Everything shared here-and the photos-show that he lived a full and meaningful life. May joyful memories bring you comfort whenever he comes to mind.
I did not know Michael well, but we shared a Sophomore English class at Broughton. That year, we read Shakespeare´s Julius Caesar. During one discussion, the teacher asked for an explanation of Act 5, Scene 1, where Cassius reflects on fate and resolve.
Michael raised his hand and said it meant, "God willing and the creek don´t rise!" I had never heard that expression before, and it made an instant impression on me. Ever since, whenever I hear it-even 50 years later-I think back to that moment with a smile, and remember Michael.

I'm so saddened just learning of Mike's passing. We only knew Mike through over-the-phone business but could easily tell Mike was a quality craftsman and a good man. It was always enjoyable hearing from Mike and being in his circle. Rest in peace Mike.

I just recently learned of Mike's passing. My sincere heartbreak for Ann, his family, and the art of true craftsmanship. I was lucky enough to work with Eidolon as the millwork contractor for a highly detailed residential project that became a calling card for modernist perfectionism. Mike's approach and his concern for detail was unmatched--he was a master of his craft. He was the first (and only) man I ever met who's level of precision surpassed my expectation. His sense of design and his passion for perfection was relentless and awe inspiring. So much so, he had the ability to drive even me crazy with the minutest of concerns and questions. That's the highest compliment I've ever been able to say about anyone I've had the pleasure to work with and get to know. Micheal's death is the epitome of a "lost art" and this world is lesser because of it.

Mike was one of the first people I met when I moved to Raleigh and was the same then as later in life. Mike was a true craftsman in everything he pursued and has left an indelible on Raleigh in countless ways. I just learned of Mike's passing yesterday and hope for peace for Ann and his loving circle.

My condolences. Peace of God to Mike´s family. I remember meeting Mike through our mutual friend, David Knight while we were in high school and have fond memories of the 3 of us listening to our favorite music together. I fell out of touch with Mike after going to college and later, moving up to Washington DC.
I enjoyed looking at all your family photos, especially one with Mike beside a huge beautiful door & assuming he made those amazing artistic designs.
