Michael Thumm Obituary

Durham, North Carolina - Michael Mallory Thumm, 76, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024 at his home in Durham with his children by his side. He was born in Guilford county to the late Milford Vernon Thumm and Martha Virginia Jane Mallory Thumm.
Mike was a veteran of the United States Army and earned a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice. He served as Superintendent at Orange County Correctional center. After retirement, Mike was involved in numerous community organizations focused on helping others. He enjoyed music, cooking, cars, and current events.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Melinda Blaine Thumm; son, Michael Brandon Thumm; and former spouse, Betty Smith Thumm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alamance Orange Prison Ministry: P.O. Box 9932 Chapel Hill, NC, 27515.

I met Mr Thumm years ago I was promoted to Assistant Superintendent in 2005 Mike Thumm was my boss. he retired in 2008 We continued to be friends and occasionally met at his favorite restaurant Shanghi in Durhan Melinda and Michael I am so sorry to hear of your dad's passing he was a mentor to me as well as a special friend Rest in Peace my dear friend.
