Mildred Ferrell Obituary

Mildred "Millie" Dorrity Ferrell

December 2, 1930 - October 20, 2015

Cary

Mildred "Millie" Dorrity Ferrell, 84, of Cary, went to be with her Lord on October 20, 2015. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl M. Ferrell. Millie was born in 1930 in Orange County, North Carolina to Eunice and Hazel Dorrity who preceded her in death. She was raised in Durham where she met and courted her beloved Carl; they married in 1952 and were blessed in their union until his passing in 1996. Millie quickly became an independent woman who proudly took care of herself while dearly loving her family and friends.

Anyone who knew Millie would say that she was a sweet and kind woman. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren. Millie was a devout Christian who always remained strong in her faith. She also volunteered her time in civic service in Elizabeth City, NC, helping to install life lines for the elderly and disabled and actively serving in other community organizations. Millie loved gardening, cooking, canning, and she definitely loved her sweets. A favorite place of hers to visit and eat was Briggs Family Restaurant, where they knew her by name.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, daughters Rebecca F. Randall and husband Stephen from Greenville, NC; Carol F. Burnette and fiancé Christopher Voigt from Cary, NC; and son Daniel Carl Ferrell from Georgia; grandsons, Alexander B. Randall and wife, Kaitlin, and Austin B. Randall; and her beloved siblings, William Dorrity and Ethel Kaplan.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 2:00pm, with a visitation from 1:00-2:00pm, at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC. Interment will follow at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be made online at www.MitchellatRMP.com

Our condolences on the passing of your dear mom. My family was so blessed to have met Millie. After I moved my mom to NC, Millie became her driver, her supporter and her best friend. Millie had a way of looking at people and appreciating them for what they were. That is such a gift. After my mom passed, Millie and I continued the friendship with lunches at Briggs, tea in her apartment and phone chats, all with much love. Thank you for sharing her with us. She will be missed. She loved her family greatly and what a wonderful family you are.

I just wanted to send my condolences and tell you what a sweet, kind lady I thought your mother was. I was so sorry to hear of your loss and actually it is our loss also. Mrs. Ferrell was always a joy to talk to. She would always put a smile on my face and I loved talking about things other than insurance. Our conversations included many topics other than insurance and it was always my pleasure to pick up the phone and find out she was on the other end. I have worked here for 46 years and Mrs Ferrell was one of those customers that I loved and appreciated! God Bless your family at this time and just know we are praying and thinking of you.

Mom Ferrell was a wonderful woman. I've been married to her daughter Becky for 42 years and was close to Millie through all of those years. She became my sole mother when my mom passed away in 1996. It was a role she took on willingly. She always treated me as her son and we could talk about anything and everything. We were 20 years apart in age and for some reason that was special to us. Millie had a heart of gold. She was a gentle, loving soul who gave freely of herself. She was also very much a Christian. Her faith gave her strength and guided her. She is and will continue to be sorely missed by myself and the many others whose lives she touched.

Millie was one of the first people I met at Asbury UMC and in Go Getters. She was genuinely sweet with a self deprecating sense of humor. I will miss our occasional chats and lunches at Brigs over the years. Please know that our prayers are with her family.

Millie was very special to me and I will miss her more than words can express. She is gone from my little corner of the world... but I will never forget her !
