Mickey Samuelson was a true Southern Lady. Her high standards of conduct and thoughtful, caring spirit made her a trusted and beloved friend to an untold number of people. All who knew her tell of her kindness, charm, gentleness, grace, and love. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother. Her deep faith in Jesus Christ was a blessing to everyone. As Proverbs 31:28 describes, "Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her."
Mickey was graduated from Nashville, TN schools and was further educated at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. where she was a member of the Chi Omega Fraternity. She met husband-to-be Ken, at a Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity house party where Ken told his friends, "I am going to marry that girl." He did so eighteen months later.
Mickey taught preschool at First Baptist Church in Washington, NC. She loved singing in the choir and teaching children's Sunday school classes. She participated and held officer positions in many church and community organizations. She served as president of Woman's Missionary Union, Leaksville Spray Garden Club, District 5 NC Garden Clubs, Leaksville Spray History Club, and Cecil B. DeMille Book Club. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Road to Recovery, Vacation Bible School, PTA, Girl Scouts, and was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution (Davie Poplar Chapter). She was an excellent bridge and tennis player. She delighted in reading aloud to her children and grandchildren and enjoyed many vacation trips across the USA. She also was a fan of UNC basketball and football, especially when daughter Kathy was head cheerleader for UNC. She used her intellect and abilities to serve God in the several cities she and Ken have called home.
