Missy Cottrell Obituary

Missy Cottrell
January 11, 1960 - July 25, 2022
Oxford, North Carolina - Missy Cottrell, 62, died peacefully on Monday July 25, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. She was born January 11, 1960, in Durham, NC to Mattie Mae Lanier and Adkins Dillehay (Pat and AD). A resident of Oxford, NC, Missy graduated from the Watts School of Nursing and received her BSN from North Carolina Central University. Her nursing career allowed the privilege of providing care at Murdoch Developmental Center, the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, and Granville County Schools. Missy was steadfast in her faith and was an active member of Oxford Baptist Church.
Ever the optimist, Missy chose to see the good in everyone and treasured every friendship made. Among her favorite things in life were the Pinecrest crew, the Tuesday Night Bridge Club, girls' trips, Little Kid/Mom Weekend, Sunday afternoon beach music radio shows, family vacations, Christmas (which started sometime just after Labor Day and lasted through mid-January), and spending time with the love of her life, Tim. Nothing took priority over her family, most especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pat and AD, and her brother Lanny Dillehay. She is survived by her husband Tim; children Tim, Whitaker, Will, Mandi, and Bobby; grandchildren Mary Adkins, William, Ellie, Maggie, Mattie, and Tripp. Also surviving are brother Barry Dillehay and his wife Nonnie; sister Dulcie Creech and her husband John; father-in-law Wallace Cottrell; sister-in-law Lynn Currin and her husband Paul. Additionally, her beloved nieces and nephews Missy and Archer Butler and their children CeCe, Patterson, and Tee; Katherine Westmoreland and her daughter Whitaker; Mary Lanier and Graham Stepp and their children Wells, Ford, and Annie; Ansel and Derya Currin and their children Watson and Amelya; Adam Currin; Randall Swift; and Jessica Klueger her husband Alex.
Memorial services will be held at Oxford Baptist Church on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Oxford Baptist Church Youth Ministry.
"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.'" (John 11:25-26)

I went to school with Missy and met up again at Granville Central HS. She was a very pleasant and caring person and loved all the students the same. She was a pleasure to work with and will be missed by so many people. Much love to the family.
