Monique V. Powell

Monique Vanessa DeMent Powell, age 48, died Thursday, August 6, 2009 at her home. A native of Granville County, Monique was the daughter of Bruce E. and Margaret Sparks DeMent. She was a member of Peace's Chapel Baptist Church where she served as a past Sunday School Teacher and choir member. Monique worked for the Granville County School system for 19 years and for the past 6 years was employed at Vance Granville Community College as Director of the Media Center. She was also a member of Leadership Granville and Vance Committees. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. from Peace's Chapel Baptist Church by Rev. Tony Futrell and Rev. Jason Hunter. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Surviving in addition to her parents, is her husband, Bobby Powell and son, Robbie Powell of the home; two sisters, Robin DeMent Chapman of Hillsborough, NC and Donna DeMent Young of Kittrell, NC_ The family will receive friends prior to the service from1:00-3:45 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Peace's Chapel Baptist Church. At other times they will be at the home of Bruce and Margaret DeMent, 4257 Fairport Road, Kittrell, NC 27544.
