Nancy Cotten Obituary
Nancy Catherine Nash Cotten
June 9, 1934 - August 4, 2022
Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina - Nancy Catherine Nash Cotten, 88, passed away peacefully at 10:18 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2022 after a long, courageous battle with kidney disease. She was born on June 9, 1934; the youngest of 11 children, to her parents the late John Wade Nash and Emma Avent Nash of Fuquay-Varina.
Nancy was married to Franklin Barlow Cotten for 57 years before his death in 2017. They lived happily on the Cotten family farm their entire married life and were members of Rawls Baptist Church and later Chalybeate Baptist Church. Together they established a Christian home and raised three devoted children.
Nancy enjoyed cooking, sewing, traveling, fishing, and watching Yankees baseball with Franklin. Nancy so loved the company of many lifelong friends, yet her family was her greatest treasure. Nancy was known to everyone as; by far, the sweetest person they'd ever met. She is remembered for her selfless, compassionate, and loving nature; a person that could only see the good in others â€" and for her biscuits, pound cake, and blueberry pies!
The abundance of love and devotion she bestowed upon her children and family was undeniable. She was an unconditional safe harbor and was always waiting with open arms. Though her passing has shattered our hearts, she leaves us with a lifetime of heartfelt memories, as we were so blessed to have her in our lives and grow in her love. If angels truly walk the earth, Nancy Cotten is certain to be one of them.
Nancy was preceded in death by sisters Bessie, Thelma, and Wilma Nash of Fuquay-Varina; Irene Searcy and Sally Eubanks of Durham, and Jean Cain of Vass, North Carolina; Mary Tabor of Alexandria, Virginia; and brothers Stuart Nash of Durham; and Billy Nash of Angier, North Carolina.
She is survived by sister Margaret Denson of Fuquay-Varina, daughter and husband Frankie and William (Billy) McGee of Raleigh; and sons Johnny and Marty Cotten of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. She is also survived by her grandson William (BJ) and his wife Cathleen (Katie), and their two sons; her great-grandsons, William and James McGee of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
