Neal Huntley Obituary

Neal Watson Huntley, 61, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, following a period of declining health.
Born in Raleigh, Neal grew up in Cameron Park, attended Raleigh public schools, graduated from UNC-Wilmington with a degree in philosophy and religion, had a career that included CP&L/Duke Energy, and was a choir member and deacon of White Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Remarkable for his quick wit and love of music, Neal delighted in family times at Ocean Isle Beach where he had spent many days and nights since 1955. As a young man, he developed an interest in photography, continuing to document family and friends for many years.
Neal was a member of a large loving family, both immediate and extended. Survivors include his mother Virginia Rea Huntley; sister Nancy R. Huntley and her daughter Hannah Whitley; brother Roy H. Huntley and his wife Ann and their children Ginnie, Harry, and Johnny Huntley; brother Wilson C. Huntley and his wife Tracy and their children Allan (and wife Tara), Reid (and wife Ale), Mary (and husband Brad Fogleman), Natalie, and Judy Huntley; and brother George G. Huntley and his wife Emilia and their children Sam, Aaron, and David Huntley.
Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends, all of them his favorites. Neal enjoyed keeping up with and encouraging them as well as planning get-togethers that always featured his mother's homemade pimento cheese and old-time hymns and rock-and-roll.
Neal was predeceased by his father Watt C. Huntley, Jr., and by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Zeb M. Rea of Matthews, and Mr. and Mrs. Watt C. Huntley of Wadesboro.
A service to celebrate Neal's life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1:00 pm at White Memorial Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service at White Memorial in Pickard Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Rd., Raleigh, NC 27608.

Neal was a good friend back in college days at UNC-Wilmington. He was unique, had a quirky sense of humor, and was a kind soul. I loved his silver Opel Kadett station wagon. I am saddened to learn of his passing.

I was very sorry to read of Neal's passing. He and Wilson used to come down to Angier in the summer when they were in high school and barn tobacco with James Fish's family. They used to drive an Opal 1900 and it was the first one that I ever saw and I always thought Neal was a cool "city" kid. He always had a wry sense of humor that everybody enjoyed. I knew Neal as a young boy. He was a friend of my children and was always very pleasant and polite to all adults. He came from a beautiful and loving family and though I haven't seen him in his adult years, I have always remembered him as someone special. Heaven is rejoicing at having him home and we are rejoicing at having had him here.

I was sad to read about Neal's passing. When I started at the CP&L/Progress Energy Call Center, he was one of the first more experienced agents there who would always make time to talk about how to improve my skills. We had a great time singing in the choir when Joyce Martin took over as director. May he rest in peace.
