Nell Kennedy Obituary

Nell Wagoner Kennedy, 89, died on Sunday, January 08, 2006, at Wesley Long Hospital.
A celebration of her life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2006, at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC. Burial will follow at the Kennedy family cemetery in Thomasville at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Kennedy was born December 11, 1916, and was married to Vernon W. Kennedy in 1939. He preceded her in death in 1974.
Mrs. Kennedy was the first of her family to leave home after high school and entered Highsmith Hospital, Fayetteville,NC in 1935 to begin a long career in the field of nursing. She began work at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro in 1939 and retired as a supervisor of nurses in 1983. She donated her nursing skills to the Bloodmobile, and her many interests included the Golden Rod Garden Club, the Shepherd Center, providing transportation to other seniors and delivering meals on wheels. She was an active member of her church Grace United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Methodist Women's Fellowship. She served on the church board, began the Graceful Living Seniors program and was especially happy to play the handbells andchimes in the choir.
Surviving to cherish her memory are: her daughter, Dr. Nina Cohen; her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Debra Kennedy; three granddaughters, Mrs. Renee Starr Rivlin and husband, Ken, Lauren Kennedy and Anne Marie Kennedy; two step-grandsons, Greg and Kevin Cohen; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Alex Rivlin. She also is survived by her sister, Mrs. Novella Eastwood.
Her presence, love and caring touched many lives.
The family will hold a visitation on Tuesday from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Hanes Lineberry North Elm Street Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Graceful Living, Grace United Methodist Church, 438 West Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27401.
