May 23, 1929 - June 3, 2018

Pittsboro

Dr. "Noah" Rouse Wilson, Jr, aged 89, died peacefully in his sleep, in the presence of family. A beloved dentist to many in Chatham County, Dr. Wilson maintained a practice in Pittsboro for 48 years, where he reared 6 children along with his wife of 66 years, Betty F. Wilson. He was known to make house calls, to take emergencies at late hours/holidays & barter in lieu of payment, caring for over 6,000 patients, multiple generations of families. He was born in 1929 in Wilson's Mills to parents Noah Rouse & Braxton Banks Wilson and later Frances Gulley Wilson. A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill he entered dentistry after draft service in the US Army, stateside in the Korean conflict. Dr. Wilson also served NC, providing dental care to children in rural communities before entering private practice. A deeply spiritual man, he led in-depth Bible discussions & was a deacon/elder & choir member & active in civic groups. He was a local pioneer of organic gardening in the 70's, whose 1.5 acre vegetable & flower gardens were a marvel to many. His children & grandchildren recount numerous, vivid stories of adventure, wonder & thoughtful teaching moments of his own, unique design. Even during advanced stages of Alzheimer's disease, Dr. Wilson continued to care for others around him. He will be incredibly missed. He is survived by his wife Betty Wilson; his six children & their spouses including Marshall Wilson, Dr. Rouse Wilson, Braxton Malan, Bett Wilson Foley, Charlotte Wilson, & Jane Allen Wilson; his brother Mark Wilson (& family); along with multiple grandchildren & great grandchildren & extended family he held dear. He is preceded in death by his sisters, May Wilson Winters & Janey Wilson Herring. The family will greet friends at Donaldson's Funeral Home in Pittsboro on Wednesday, June 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. prior to the funeral on Thursday, June 7 at the Pittsboro Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Chatham County Habit for Humanity, Hospice of Chatham County, the Alzheimer's Association, or a charitable organization of choice.

Betty and children...
What a loss to hear of Noah's passing. What a mentor he was to me-and others--especially in my 1st church post in 1973..for 4+ yrs. there. Noah stretched me in many ways- as he took seriously the call to radical discipleship. May God's tender care sustain you, Betty and each of you six dear children and your families. Rest in peace, Noah.
