Paul Dew Obituary

Paul Edward Dew

Raleigh

Paul Dew, age 84, of Raleigh NC, passed away peacefully February 10th. Paul was born April 16, 1930 in Nash County to the late William Albert Dew and Maggie Elizabeth Murray Dew. He graduated from Charles L. Coon high school in Wilson, NC where he was voted most valuable football player. His love for North Carolina and agriculture began in Bailey, NC.

Paul met his soul mate while living in Raleigh to attend NCSU and was married to Alice Wood from Louisburg, NC in March 1953. That same year he graduated with a B.S. in Vocational Agriculture and began his long and successful career in Agriculture by teaching in Surry County, NC. After serving in the army from 1954-1956, Paul returned as an Agriculture Extension Agent and continued to further his education. He got his Masters in Education in 1959 and his Doctorate in 1976 and worked in Ag Extension in NC until his retirement in 1991. Even after retirement he continued to serve NC and agriculture as Executive VP of NC Agribusiness until 1998.

In his spare time, Paul loved carpentry and enjoyed working in his shop making numerous pieces of furniture that his family continues to treasure. He was a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church serving for many years as an adult Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and as Chairman of the Deacons. He enjoyed sports and supporting the NC State Wolfpack. You could find him watching the latest game no matter what season it was!

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Alice Wood Dew; along with three children all in Raleigh, NC; son, Tim Dew and wife Beth; daughter Denise Garner and husband Tim Garner and son Edward Dew and wife Jennifer. He had seven grandchildren whom he loved, spoiled and cherished; David, Lee, Scott, Emily, Suzanne, Heather and Shelby.

A memorial service will be held at 11 o'clock, Saturday morning, February 14, 2015 in the Auditorium at Springmoor Retirement Community, 1500 Sawmill Rd, Raleigh, NC 27615, where they have lived for 7 years. A private family burial will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park following the service.

I was sorry to see the announcement. I knew Paul through his sister Mary while she resided at Mayview. My nursing staff saw Paul as a faithful and devoted brother to Mary, always assuring the best for her. I know he was a fierce protector of all whom he loved. Best regards,

Dr. Paul E. Dew R.I.P. - He was a great motivator and leader in supporting me as a young extension agent (1979) during the start of my extension career to pursue an advanced degree.

Also, he was an unique leader that believed that the clientele/publics were the core of NC Cooperative Extension's mission.

Mrs.Dew and family you are in my thoughts and prayers due the loss of your dear husband, father and a great leader with an outstanding legacy from his extension career. Take Care,Deborah
