Dear Carol and family, I grew up in Oxford where PD was our minister at Salem. He had a great influence on me as a child. In 1977 he returned to marry me and in 1980 he delivered a lovely tribute to my father at his funeral. My mother Sadie Lawrence absolutely cherished her friendship with PD. My thoughts and prayers are with you all!

Our hearts are saddened for this great loss for Carol and her family. P.D. touched so many lives and will be missed by those as well as all of us in his church family. There will remain an empty spot in our hearts for this Great Man while we adjust to life without him. P.D. never stopped working & serving the God he Loved. Our prayers and thoughts will remain with his family.

PD was such a joyous presence each Wednesday at the Southport Waterfront Market spring through fall. He organized the musical entertainment, and it was always a joy to see him and chat with him. I sell tutus at the market (and wore one each Wednesday); PD would see me and call out, "Hey, fairy princess." PD will be missed by so many. Love you, PD.

I knew PD only slightly, at summer camp, but he was a sweet and multi-talented man, kindly and lots of fun. I am sorry to hear he has died. My heart goes out to the family.

I first met PD when he came to Northern Week at Ashokan. We shared a love of music, and one evening I asked him to dance. A waltz, as I recall. He said, "My dear, I have a problem with balance. If I danced with you, it would truly be said, '"He fell for her!'" What a wonderful, dear man.

I knew PD only briefly (through a dance camp and then a Wilmington concert), but I could see his spirit shining through everything he did. I will miss his love of people, life and music, and the twinkle in his eyes. My heart goes out to his family.

PD was such an amazing man. I loved spending time with him at Ashokan Northern Week. Although he might have been the oldest camper, I never thought of him as old because of his vibrant personality and his intense feeling about what was important in life. I will replay some of his harmonica tunes in his memory. He always said that my sister Judy reminded him of his Aunt Mildred. We took that a very high complement. Love to Damron and the whole family.

Although I only knew him as a guest at a camp I cooked at, I feel privileged to have known him. A deeply spiritual man who I will always remember. My condolences to his family.

I knew PD from Ashokan and will miss him. . PD was both a heckuva nice guy and a heckuva of harmonica player. A man with no ego, and always a bridge between the elder generation and the younger ones. There is no silver lining in this cloud except that the music in Heaven will be a lot better from now on. I hope that his friends, family and loved ones will hold this Renaissance man dear in their hearts and remember him for many many years to come.
