Peggy Britt Obituary

Peggy Garner Britt

September 5, 1936 - December 28, 2024

Jacksonville, Florida - Peggy Garner Britt passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024, at the age of 88 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Born in Raleigh, NC on September 5, 1936, Peggy was the daughter of Gaither and Hattie Mae Bagwell Garner. Peggy attended Hayes Barton Baptist Church, graduated from Broughton High School in 1954, was the first person in her immediate family to attend college, and graduated from Peace College in 1956 with a degree in business. Peggy married Bill Britt in 1957 and together, beginning in 1970, they built one of the largest Amway businesses in the world. They were Founders Crown Ambassador level with 40 FAA points, one of only 14 Amway distributorships to have reached that level. She worked tirelessly to inspire and motivate others to believe in themselves, have confidence, and dream big to achieve success. She was instrumental in forming numerous other businesses outside of Amway. Peggy was involved with many philanthropic and charitable organizations including The P.E.O (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Sisterhood, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and Samaritan's Purse. She established the Bill and Peggy Britt Foundation Inc. so that she could continue her philosophy of people helping people. She was also a generous supporter of her Alma Mater, William Peace University (formerly Peace College) where her gifts will continue to support students for years to come.

Peggy is survived by her brother, G. Bryant (Sandra) Garner of Cary, NC; her niece, Martha (Chuck) Long of Apex, NC; her nephew, Grey (Vanessa) Garner of Nashville, TN; her great nieces, Kaitlyn Long and Hattie Grey Garner; and her great nephews, Preston Long and Will Garner.

Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Britt; her parents, Gaither and Hattie Mae Garner; and her sister, Betsy Marie Garner.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. A private family interment will be in La Grange, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any of the following organizations: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105), Samaritan's Purse (801 Bamboo Road, Boone, NC 28607), SPCA of Wake County (200 Petfinder Lane, Raleigh, NC 27603), William Peace University (15 East Peace Street, Raleigh, NC 27604) or Hayes Barton Baptist Church (1800 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27608).

Peggy and Bill impacted our lives in a most positive way. We learned to value ourselves and believe that anything is possible if you only believe. They encouraged us to dream big, so we did! Our lives are richer because of them. We were able to reach out and touch the lives of many and were humbled by the good that came from it. They taught us to have faith in the God who created us and our lives were blessed by that knowledge beyond measure! May the rest in the Lord's peace.
