Peggy Duke Obituary
January 2, 1934 - September 10, 2021
Apex, North Carolina - Peggy Sears Duke, 87, of Apex, passed away peacefully Friday, September 10, 2021 in the care of Transitions Lifecare Hospice in Raleigh, NC.
Peggy was born January 2, 1934 in Wake County to the late Henry Wade Sears and Maggie Seagroves Sears. She was a graduate of Green Hope High School and was employed with Liggett Myers, retiring with over 30 years of service. She loved her work making cigarettes and was always proud to say she never smoked one cigarette. Peggy was a charter member of Immanuel Freewill Baptist Church in Durham. She loved was a strong leader of faith and loved the Lord. Peggy loved fishing at Morehead City and most of all she loved all her family and friends.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Milton Duke; step-son, Edward "Moose" Ray Duke; brother, Henry Wade Sears, Jr. and sister, Margaret Sears Denson.
She is survived by her daughter, Jodie Duke Denson and husband, Ross; and son, John Edward Duke; grandchildren, Channing Nicole Duke; Tori Duke Matthews; James Tyler Denson; step-granddaughter Kristy Duke Sloan; and great-grandchildren, Dakota Rose Duke; Asher Riley Denson; step-great granddaughter Riley Nicole Maynor.
The family will receive friends 10am - 11:30am Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St., Apex, NC 27502. A graveside service will follow at noon at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens, 7600 ACC Blvd, Raleigh, NC 27617.
The family would like to thank the staff of Spring Arbor of Apex for all their loving care and support during the past two and half years.
