Pittsboro, North Carolina - Peter Samuel Landstrom, 68, of Pittsboro, NC, died peacefully July 3, 2022, at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC after a brief illness.
Son of the late Norman and Elsie Hayes Landstrom, he was born April 21, 1954, in Boston, and grew up in Needham, MA. Peter graduated from George School, Newtown, PA and received his BA and MA from UNC-Chapel Hill.
He also spent his working life at UNC-Chapel Hill, retiring on disability from the Area Studies Centers in 2010.
Peter is survived by wife of 41 years, Susan Betts Landstrom; sister Ruth Landstrom and husband Peter Weber of Monroe, NY; niece Katy Weber of Minneapolis, MN; nephew Jack Weber and wife Sara Ghassemzadeh of Bronx, NY; sister-in-law Sara Betts of Greenville, SC; aunt, Lois Anderson of Newton, KS; cousins Cathy Sullivan of Broken Arrow, OK; Lori Stephens of Chickasha, OK; Julie Murray of Topeka, KS; and dear friends Steve and Eloise Grathwohl of Chapel Hill, NC; and Michael Grathwohl of Chicago, IL. He also leaves behind his cat Malika and an enormous stack of unread books.
A memorial service will be held at 4:30 pm Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Extraordinary Ventures, 200 South Elliott Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
