Philip Hammond Obituary

Philip Gordon Hammond passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 7, of complications from treatment for leukemia. He was 72.
Mr. Hammond, who was born in Cerro Gordo, NC, was a graduate of Indiana Technical Institute. As a mechanical engineer for Kimberly-Clark of Appleton, Wisconsin, he designed equipment used in the manufacture of Kimberly-Clark products. His work took him all over the world.
An avid lover of opera and classical music, Mr. Hammond was a generous supporter of the North Carolina Ballet and the North Carolina Symphony. He had served as secretary for the Raleigh Chamber Music Guild for the past five years.
Mr. Hammond is survived by Jean R. Blizin, his wife of 10 years; as well as three children from his previous marriage, Mrs. Celeste Easton, Mrs. Poppy Steinbrecher, and Mr. Luke Hammond, all of Wisconsin. He is also survived by two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Nancy Moore of Bedford, MA; Ms Judy Hammond of Cerro Gordo, NC; and David Hammond of Quincy, PA. He had four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Mitchell Funeral Home, Raleigh.
There are no details for a service at this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Hammond's name to the North Carolina Ballet, the North Carolina Symphony, or the Raleigh Chamber Music Guild.
