Rear Retired Obituary

Rear Admiral William B. Warwick US Navy Retired, 75, passed away Thursday Feb. 10, 2005 at his home after a long bout with cancer. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Warwick was born in Indianapolis, IN a son of the late Chester C. and Mary Manchester Warwick. He was designated a Naval Aviator in 1950, and went on to fly many combat missions in Korea and Vietnam. His list of commands includes two Carrier based attack Squadrons, the amphibious assault ship USS Ponce, the attack Aircraft Carrier USS Independence, and Carrier Group FOUR. Closing out a 33 year Naval career, his final assignment was as Commander naval Safety Center.
His personal decorations include The Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and numerous campaign and service medals.
Adm. Warwick was a member of the Jonesboro United Methodist Church, the Association of Naval Aviation, the Flying Midshipmen Association, the Naval Aviation Museum, and the Naval Historic Foundation.
Adm Warwick is survived by his wife, Dorothy B. Warwick; children by previous marriage: Dianne Stevens of Gaithersburg, MD, Robert W. Warwick of Suffolk, VA, and James E. Warwick of New Bern, NC.; three step-children; two brothers, Chester A. Warwick of Truth or Consequences, NM and Michael L. Warwick of Indianapolis, IN; one sister, Mary W. Apple of Lebanon, IN; five step-grandchildren; and seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions can be made to Community Hospice & Home Care, 110-B Fields Dr., Sanford, NC 27330, or to the Salvation Army, 124 S. Steele Street Sanford, NC 27330.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Saturday at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.
