Richard Siler Obituary
October 14, 1931 - June 27, 2022
Goldsboro, North Carolina - Richard "Sandy" Siler of Goldsboro passed away peacefully at his home on June 27. Sandy was born in Siler City in 1931. He was valedictorian of his senior class and was an excellent athlete. East Carolina University offered a football scholarship and he played a pivotal role on the football team as quarterback and defensive back. He graduated with a degree in mathematics and met his wife, Jean Head, of Seven Springs while at ECU. After returning from active duty in Korea, Sandy worked as a park ranger at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park before becoming a math teacher for many years at Eastern Wayne Junior High. Among many varied interests his favorites were golf, music, bird watching, gardening and being an integral part of St Francis Episcopal Church.
Sandy is survived by Jeannie, his wife of 70 years. He was a wonderful Dad to his children David (deceased), Mary Margaret & Paul, their spouses Larry and Cheetie and grandkids Siler and David.
Funeral services will be held at St Francis Episcopal Church on Friday July 8th at 1:00. In lieu of flowers that family would appreciate donations to St Francis or to Community Home Care & Hospice.

We cherished our friendship with Sandy and Jean. Meals we shared, games of golf, events at WCCC, and special family occasions are good memories. Sandy loved his family above all and was a man of sincerity and integrity. We will miss him. We extend our sympathy to his family.

Mr Siler was my favorite teacher at EWJHS. I was terrible at math and he had a lot of patience with my struggles. Such a sweet man. I was very fortunate to have lived with Mary at ECU and Chico with Larry at NCSU. My prayers and thoughts are with the Siler family.
