Richard Wallace Obituary

Richard Bruce Wallace

October 9, 1935 - October 7, 2025

Lillington, North Carolina - Richard Bruce Wallace, 89, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at his home in Lillington, North Carolina. He was born in Columbus County, North Carolina, on October 9, 1935, and was the son of the late Howard Marshall Wallace and Clara Elizabeth Nance Wallace.

A devoted family man, Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. A proud Eagle Scout, both his son Charles and grandson Michael followed in his footsteps to achieve the same rank. He held the role of Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 61 for many years, teaching and inspiring hundreds of boys and young men to live up to the Scout Law of being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.

Richard was a hardworking and accomplished professional known for his honesty, skill, and strong work ethic. He was the State Single Family Housing Specialist for the Farmers Home Administration in Raleigh. A proud Democrat, Richard was heavily involved with the local Democratic Party, and made many trips to Washington, D.C., often serving North Carolina barbeque to members of Congress.

In his personal life, Richard found great joy in helping others and was a truly remarkable builder and handyman. He never met a stranger. He will be remembered fondly by family and friends for his indomitable spirit, strength, generosity and his many stories.

In addition to his parents and siblings, Richard is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Becky Brooks Wallace, and son, Charles Richard Wallace.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Mary Leigh Howell, and son-in-law, Ross, of Greensboro; grandson, Michael Brooks Wallace of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Paige LaNier Wallace, of Holly Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank special caregivers Kathi Dawson, Kathy Tart, and Paige Wallace for their attentive and loving care of Richard. They also would like to thank Transitions Life Care for their service and compassion.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 2:00pm at Lillington United Methodist Church, 1201 S Main Street, Lillington, NC 27546. The family will receive friends Friday, October 10, 2025 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 300 E. McIver St., Angier, NC 27501.
