Robert Asenbauer Obituary

Robert L. "Poppy" Asenbauer, Sr.
October 25, 1934 - February 26, 2021
Raleigh, North Carolina - Robert Louis "Poppy" Asenbauer, Sr., 86, passed away on February 26, 2021 at Capitol Nursing and Rehabilitation. Born on October 25, 1934 in New York City, New York; he was the only child of the late Louis Asenbauer and Louise Ertl Asenbauer.
Robert worked at IBM for over 30 years and retired in 1990, spending most of his time playing golf twice a week with his friends until he was 82 years old. He made sure that our whole family was able to spend one week out of the year at the Whaler Inn Beach Club so that we could all spend time together at the Beach. He lived a good long life with family who loved him very much.
He is survived by his children: Michael Asenbauer of Fuquay-Varina, Barbara L. Heller of Everett, WA, Joyce Godwin, of Clayton, Carol Huskins of Knightdale; grandchildren: Carissa Huskins Smart and husband John, Kyle Huskins, Bradley Huskins, Jesse Asenbauer, Katherine Everett and husband Ross, Garrick Heller, Kristy Heller-Bemis and husband Ryan, Billy Burgess and husband Tom, and Michelle Heller; great-grandchild: Jackson Everett; and other family and friends.
Poppy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara Umbstatter Asenbauer; son: Robert L. "Bobby" Asenbauer, Jr. and son-in-law: Kenneth Godwin.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 1 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, with Liturgy of the Word beginning at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. Live streaming will begin at 1:55 pm through the Facebook Page of Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park for all to attend virtually.

This was one amazing Man. He was Strong yet Gentle, Smart and kind. I've known him most of my life as I was a close friend of his children. He treated me like Family. I will never forget him. Love, Lori Hodgkinson

To all of the family:
I’ve known Poppy since 1994 when Carol and Carissa moved next door to me. He has always been a very supportive dad and grandpa. I was blessed to spend time with Poppy and the family at the Whaler Inn during the summer and other times at his home. He loved his family dearly and would do anything for them.
I pray and ask our Most Gracious Heavenly Father to be with the family in the coming days, weeks, and months as they mourn the loss of Poppy. I pray they’re comforted by the Holy Spirit, whom is given to all who receive salvation from Jesus Christ and His death on the cross.
