Robert Atherton Obituary

Robert A. Atherton, 60, of Fuquay-Varina died Friday,June 24, 2005 after losing his battle with cancer.
He was born in Decatur, IL on May 7th, 1945, son of Catherine Atherton and the late Robert Atherton of Decatur. He is survived by his wife Kenna (Pope) Atherton, sisters; Carol Sue Wagner and husband Chuck of Decatur, JoAnn Schrader and husband Kenneth of Decatur; three sons; Robert Atherton, Jr. and wife,Paula of Brazoria TX, Bradley Atherton of Phoenix, AZ, and Evan Atherton of Fuquay-Varina, two daughters; Julia Young and husband Kenneth of Marion IA, Michelle Koury and husband Paul of Phoenix, AZ; and nine grandchildren.
Bob was a loving son,brother, husband and father. He was a devoted employee of Caterpillar, Inc. for 38 years. He was happiest enjoying the outdoors, and later in life, riding horses. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 27th, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St., Apex. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Another memorial service will be held at a later date in Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home in Decatur, IL with burial in the North fork Cemetery in Decatur.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Lung Association, or the Natural Resources Defense Council.
