Robert Camp Obituary

Robert Henry "Bob" Camp, 74, died on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at his home following a courageous battle with mesothelioma. At the time of his death, his wife Betty and their three children were present.
Bob was born in Bronxville, NY on October 31, 1933 to Rose White Camp and Ernest Wright Camp. After his father's death when he was five, he was raised in the Baltimore-Washington area. Prior to college he served in the United States Army. He graduated from Mount St. Mary's College in 1960 and was married the same year to the former Elizabeth Chambers. During the early years of their marriage, Bob taught English in the Baltimore County school system while attending evening classes at the University of Maryland Law School. After graduating from law school in 1964 and passing the Maryland bar, he worked for the U.S. Army Corps of engineers during which time he earned a Masters of Law degree in government contracts from the George Washington University. He also held memberships in the Virginia and DC bar associations.
Beginning in 1968, Bob joined ITT Corporation Defense Communications Division in Nutley, NJ. He served as corporate counsel at several profit centers including Ellicott City, MD, Roanoke, VA, Raleigh, NC and Corinth, MS. Between 1978 and 1982, Bob worked at ITT Defense Group Headquarters in New Jersey. After taking early retirement from ITT in 1988, Bob successfully completed the North Carolina bar examination and subsequently worked for ATT, (now Lucent) at the Guilford Center in Greensboro, NC.
In addition to being a lifelong avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles, his hobbies were sailing, opera and reading. Bob sailed out of Oriental, NC and Jackson Creek Harbor in Deltaville, VA, where he and Betty owned a condominium during the past four years. The Camps were founding members of St. Francis of Assisi Church, now in its 25th year. During the past 10 years, he served as a volunteer at Catholic Parish Ministry and Migrant Ministry.
Bob is survived by his wife Betty of 47 years and their three children, Elizabeth Camp Trimmer and husband, Jeffrey Trimmer, Robert Camp and wife, Laura, and Daniel Camp and wife, Leanne. The grandchildren are: Jeffrey Rodney Trimmer Jr., Sarah Elizabeth Trimmer, Daniel Vincent Camp, Thomas Benjamin Camp and Caroline Chambers Camp. His sister, Margaret Gorman and husband Capt. Henry Gorman USn (ret) of Palm Beach, FL survive.
There will be a celebration of Bob's life 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2007 at St. Francis of Assisi Church on Leesville Road.
Memorial contributions may be made to: Catholic Parish Outreach, 2539 Noblin Road, Raleigh, NC 27604 or St. Francis of Assisi Church, 11401 Leesville Road, Raleigh NC 27613.

I came across a Christmas card I received from Bob in 2005 from Fearrington Post. I have been trying for a few days to find Betty´s address. For some reason I found Bob´s obituary and picture. I never knew his background or anything about him other than that I worked for and with Bob. He was super intelligent, one of the hardest working executives I worked for, and he was kind and funny. I always thought I was a lot older than Bob, and one day I found out that we both shared the same birthday, but he was a year older. I can´t say how happy I am that I found this today. I pray that Betty is well and his children and grandchildren are well.

Liz, I was so sorry to her of your Dad's passing. Please know that you are in my prayers. On Dec. 12th, my Dad was gone 21 years and on Dec. 30th, my Mom will be gone 3 years. It is SO hard to lose a parent, but now they are all at peace looking down on us from heaven. God's Peace and my love to you and your family. Mary
