Robert Johnson Obituary

Today Robert Johnson’s soul has broken free and flown home. Robert will be remembered for his wit and dry humor. He always looked on the bright side of life and believed the best about everyone and continued to trust in the Lord. Even though he was beset by that mind-thief Alzheimer’s, he remained the same sweet natured person who liked a good laugh. Until the end he remembered the love of his life, Flossie and he prayed to Jesus.
Robert grew up in Smokey Hollow and was a medic in WWII, serving in France and Germany. He went on to work at the Greyhound bus garage and then spent over 30 years with Associated Transport as a truck-driver and member of the Teamsters Union Local 391 until the company closed. He and his wife then started Johnson’s Wood Shop at the Fairgrounds Flea Market and remained there 19 years.
He was predeceased by his darling wife of 64 years, Flossie, his son, Robert Roland Johnson Jr., his brothers, Lawrence and Roy, and his sister, Marion.
He leaves behind his children, Jennette King (Robert), Kathy Belk (Denny), Rodney Johnson (Judy); grandchildren, Kym Penland (Robert), Jennifer Akins (Mike), Jessica Blackmon (Mike), Sarah Byrd (James), Dana Johnson, Sebastian Belk, and Gina Woolard; great-grandchildren, Ariel Penland, Kaylie Penland, Caleb Akins, Jamie Akins, Devon Blackmon, Kendal Hayless, Britany Hayless and Brooklyn Hayless.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday at Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church, 521 Polk Street, Raleigh. Burial will follow at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday night at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, and at other times at 1139 Fuller St, Raleigh, 27603.

Net,
So sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad. I still remember when he and your mom would invite me to go to the drive in with you and Bobby on Saturday nights.

Uncle Robert was my favorite . He was always joking and caring on.
I lived beside Uncle Robert & Aunt Flossie and my cousins my whole chidhood. I have some many great memories I don't know where to begin. He used to call me Sticky Vickie. Why I don't remember. But, it stuck for years. I remember he build a stage so all of us kids could put on shows. I will miss him. But, I will always have my memories. Now he is with Jesus .
