Robert Kimley Obituary

Robert John Kimley, of Port Orange, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010.
Robert was born on October 28, 1924 in Buffalo, NY to Lester and Adelaide Kimley. He was the co-founder of the engineering firm Kimley-Horn and Associates. He retired from the State of North Carolina Transportation Division. He was a member of the Society of Civil Engineers, Institute of Transportation Engineers, American Legion, and the North Carolina State Alumni Association. He proudly served with the United States Marine Corps during WWII.
He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Carolyn; his children, Charlene (Tom) Swilling, John (Janine) Kimley, James (Pam) Kimley, Kristin (Mike) Marks and Gerri Kimley Stone; his stepchildren, Brannon (Heather) Kimley, Ryan (Jennifer) Barr, Jacqueline (Dudley) Crowe, Gabrielle (Keith) Lang and Michele Barr; 10 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; four great- grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Halifax Humane Society, 2364 West LPGA Boulevard, Daytona Beach, FL 32120 or Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle, VA 22172.
A memorial service in his honor will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue Bushnell, Florida.

Dad, I wish I could have been there for the big get together before you died. Thank you for my education. It was not mentioned that you had a civil engineering degree and masters degree in education from NCSU. You were one smart man! You loved your crossword puzzles and books. You always laughed about Murphy following you around (look up Murphy's Law). I loved your sense of humor. It was a sense of humor only your family could love !(LOL).
