Robert Michael Lowery, 58, of New Hill, died tragically on Saturday, October 8, 2017.
Robert was born May 22, 1959 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He was a graduate of Apex High School and owner of R&J Mechanical and Welding Service in Apex for over 32 years.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Rossie "Bud" Lowery.
He is survived by his wife, Laralyn Hodges Lowery; mother, Eva Robison Lowery; son, Justin Hayes Lowery and daughter, April Lowery; and son, Sidney "Trey" Hodges, III; sisters, Peggy Lowery Mills and Patricia Lowery; brothers, Teddy Lowery (Judy) and Julian Lowery; nieces, Joni Williams and Nancy Blalock; nephews, Adam Lowery, Jason Lowery and Travis Gaster; and ten grandchildren, Gabriel Hodges, Caitlyn Lowery, Jackson Guernsey, Maxton Guernsey, Sanoe Hodges, A.J. Hodges, Emersyn Rose Guernsey, Garrett Gordon, Jeremy Gordon, Ellie Gordon and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11am Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Apex Funeral Home Chapel, 550 W. Williams St, Apex, NC 27502. Burial will follow the service at New Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8pm Friday, October 13, 2017 at the funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the ALS Association of NC, Salvation Army, Wounded Warrior Project, NC Fallen Fire Fighter's Foundation, or a charity of one's choice.

Lynn and the R&J family
I met Robert 25 yrs ago after moving to Apex from Md.
I left a solid group of people back home but Robert proved to be someone who could replace them all.
His life was an example on how we should treat one another, gain and self interest were not what he was about. He was a rich man in ways few understand and I know my life is less without him.

Such a tremendous loss to family, friends, and community. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. He was a hard working person with a smile all the time. Robert will truly be missed. He was always smiling. I remember being in School and Robert would always speak and smile when we would pass in the hallway. Then he did a lot of work on our vehicles. I've thought of Robert much over the last few days. He was someone we could bring something too, tell him "Robert, I need this done" and he would say "OK, you got it." There wasn't much he wasn't willing to tackle. Two weeks ago I enjoyed speaking with Robert about his log cabin he has been working on for the last several years. The home is a beauty and he did everything on it. Just another example of the talented man he was. We send condolences to the family, friends, and everyone at R and J Exhaust.

To Lynn & the entire Lowery family,
I did not know Robert but for a short time, but in that time I knew a man of great heart & generosity. I don't think I ever saw him w/o a smile on his face and an acceptance of the person he met for what they were. He definitely had a love of life, people, diversity & lived his to the fullest. I think several of us lived our lives vicariously through the man, and with that, saddens us even more at his passing. I know I, as everyone else he touched, when we think of him a smile will come across our face and perhaps a tear to our eye.

Gone far too soon. Robert was a great man. He has done a great bit of work for my family and I. There was nothing he couldn't do. I can't tell you how many times I would go to Robert for belt with welding work and he finish...and tell me it was free. He wouldn't accept money no matter how hard I tried to give it to him. That's what kind of person Robert was. I know I will nevee forget him. He will be missed dearly. My thoughts are with Roberts family, friends, and the hearts he touched over the years.
