Dear Uncle Bob,

It's so hard to believe that you are gone. But we know you will always be with us in spirit.

This is some of my favorite memories of you, and what will I miss about you most:

Your excellent knack for telling the best jokes, always with the perfect tone and delivery and the smile or smirk on your face while telling them ~ "washy, washy, washy", "she's a crippled you know".

Making us kids swim the length of the pool twice before we were allowed in the deep end. It showed you cared.

Pulling out your teeth and making us all run away scared and screaming when there was a line of us at the diving board and you wanted to go off of it first! :D

The way you and Aunt Gerry were always so welcoming to so many people at once in your home.

The year you put out on the front of the house, "Welcome to Madey's Motel" and put room numbers on all of the doors.

The softball team you put together of all the Uncles playing down the street at the school ball field. And the parade you all did one time down the street carrying a huge silly flag.

4th of July weekends.

Breakfast!

All of us going to the Kellogg and Post cereal factories and coming home with 105 or so of those little boxes of cereal.

Jart tournaments.

Everyone gathered in the living room -it was packed - singing Charley Pride and some other favorites with the microphone. Especially the time you caught Betty and I quietly mouthing all of the words and put the microphone up to us. We felt self conscience that suddenly all eyes were on us ~ but secretly loved it.

Giving us "kids" (we were all of drinking age of course!) $20 the night of Uncle Stanley's wake and telling us to go out and have fun and the first drink was on you.

When Dorothy, Susie, Jenny, Cheryl and I all worked downtown at Fannie Mae and you were in town for business and met us for lunch.

Shuttling all of us to the hospital when we all got sick from the lake water at our 1990 cousin reunion.

The poem you wrote for my dad when he passed away. It will always be cherished.

And last but not least, waking us up every morning to Lovesick Blues blasting!

You will be greatly missed, and always loved.

Laurie

THE LAST THING ON MY MIND
as I ride along, heading to be with you all to celebrate my Uncle Bob’s Life, would be the notion of being able to ever forget the gift of his life.

JUST BETWEEN YOU AND ME, I KNOW ONE,
my Uncle Bob, cured many a
LOVESICK BLUES
of one form or another, for many others throughout his life, because he always held in his heart what Jesus said to him long ago
“Bob Madey… I want you to be,
THE IMAGE OF ME! ”

I ponder the thought of him meeting poor ole
KAW-LIGA
face to face (IN PERSON).

The SHUTTERS AND BOARDS
that cover the windows to all the questions we have in this life, just as he had, have now been removed for him.

I kind of hope Bud had him for
SIX DAYS ON THE ROAD,
driving together through the “heavenly”
STREETS OF BALTIMORE,
as he made his way to heaven… reminiscing with Bud, the story of his journey here with his beautiful friend, companion and wife,
my Aunt Gerry.
And… knowing that she ain’t
GOT LEAVIN’ ON HER MIND,
I’m pretty certain of the joy she holds in her heart of one day again being reunited with her beautiful friend, companion and husband, my Uncle Bob.

Now, as he sees the majesty of the Lord’s
CRYSTAL CHANDELIERS,
along those streets paved of gold, the
COTTON FIELDS
he gazes on now are only the puffy white clouds of the sky.

Thanks Uncle Bob, and thanks for having such good taste in the music of Charley Pride!

Love y'all, Bob Madey family,
~Dale

“How can I say Goodbye Old Buddy,
How can I say Adieu
I really can’t Old Buddy
Just….. I’ll be seeing You”
The thoughts of his heart are to all generations.
