Durham
Ronnie Ray Cox died Saturday, December 8, 2018. The son of the late Willie Maye Cox and Ethel Gertrude Turnage Cox. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cox was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Willie Maye Cox and Robert Earl Cox; sister, Helen Ruth Cox; and three half brothers, James Harvey Cox, Claude Duckery Cox and Fred Joseph Cox.
Mr. Cox owned Park Auto Service and previously owned Triangle BP of Durham for almost 40 years. His customers quickly became his friends. Mr. Cox also served in the US Navy during Vietnam and earned many service medals, including an Expert Rifleman Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and a Fleet Marine Combat Operations Insignia.
Mr. Cox is survived by his wife, Daphine Medlin Cox; daughter Michelle Cox Brooks, and husband Geoffrey; granddaughter, Savannah Lauren Brooks; sister, Elizabeth Gertrude Abell and brother, Jimmy Lee Cox.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, December 15, at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham, with Pastor Eric Burmahl officiating. Burial will follow at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service and other times at the home of Michelle and Geoffrey Brooks.
