Fuquay Varina, North Carolina - Sally Dee Barney, 62, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side at Wake Medical Center. Sally is survived by her husband Douglas; her daughters Elizabeth Lewis (Erik) and Catherine Plautz (Derek Lewis); sons Christian (Mary), Mark (Ashley), Michael (Kristin), Eric (Sarah), Daniel (Rebecca), and Benjamin Alexander; grandchildren Amelia, Charlotte, Clark, Tabitha and Janine Lewis; Rhys, Alistair, Miranda, and Gwenian Lewis; Maggie, Maxwell, Lucy, Lionel, Etta and Annie Plautz; Livia and MarliRae Plautz; Thatcher and Violet Plautz; Penny and Zachary Plautz; sisters Colleen Rawlinson (Will), Ruth Ellen Chandler (Jared), JoAnn Pennock (John) and Fran Hall (Jim). She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Ruth Eleanore Barney.
Born in East Chicago, IN, Sally was the third of five daughters. She married her high school sweetheart, Douglas Alan Plautz, on March 22, 1980. They moved to NC in 1986, where they raised 8 children.
Sally was a talented pianist, flautist, singer, and choir director at church. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her faith strengthened her through many of life's trials including two separate bouts with cancer - first breast, then ovarian.
Sally had successful careers while a stay-at-home mom: music teacher, seamstress, then opening her own business Cake Dreams by Sally, and finally established a real estate career.
A funeral will be held by invitation Feb 3, 2021 at 1 pm. She will interred at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Fuquay Varina, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Duke Cancer Institute. Please choose "DCI Gynecologic Cancers Fund".
