Saphronia Gebuhr Obituary

Saphronia Jayne Harrison Gebuhr, 85, of Libertytown, MD and formerly of Chapel Hill, NC died January 12,2004 at her home in Libertytown, MD.
Born in Akron, OH December 19, 1918, she is the daughter of the late Richard Elward Harrison and Mary Elizabeth Connany Harrison.
Mrs. Gebuhr had strong ties to Washington, DC and to North Carolina. She resided in Suitland, MD as a child, attended George Washington University, and worked at the War Department in the Civil Service Commission. While at the Civil Service Commission, she met and married Carl Leo Gebuhr in Washington, DC in 1941. She and her husband spent many years in the Foreign Service, serving in Europe, Asia, and the United States. Their final assignment was at Fort Bragg, NC and they retired in Chapel Hill, NC in 1976.
She enjoyed many years of volunteerism in Chapel Hill with the Interfaith Council and Animal Protection Society. She was also an active member of the Eno River Unitarian Church. In 1996, she moved to Libertytown, MD to live with her daughter, Karla Robeson.
She is survived by her former husband, Carl Leo Gebuhr of Murfreesboro, TN; her daughter, Karla Jayne Robeson and husband, Steven Robeson of Libertytown, MD; daughter, Rebecca Elizabeth Gebuhr McCloskey and husband, Thomas Arnold McCloskey of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren, Timothy Robeson, Kristina Robeson, Matthew McCloskey and Alex McCloskey.
She is predeceased by her parents, three siblings, and her son, Richard Gregory Gebuhr.
Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 24th, 2004 from the Unitarian Universalist Congregation Church of Frederick, Maryland. Internment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Eno River Unitarian Church, 4907 Garrett Road, Durham, NC 27707 or to the Animal Protection Society in Chapel Hill.
