Sarah Warren

1949 - 2026

Sarah Timberlake Warren, 76, died unexpectedly of a heart attack in her home in Cary, North Carolina on January 28, 2026. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank B. Warren, Jr, and Paige Johnson Warren, and her older brother Frank B. Warren, III. She is survived by her sister-in-law Stephanie Rice Warren of Sherman, CT.



Sarah was born on November 23, 1949 in Philadelphia and grew up in Danville, Virginia. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1971 and then traveled to Kyoto, Japan where she taught English and studied Japanese language, calligraphy, and arts for several years. She also worked in Hong Kong and Tokyo for financial institutions before returning to New York City with a position for a start-up financial organization.



She took courses at the New York Botanical Gardens and received a Certificate in Botany in 1984. She then studied at Yale University and was awarded the degree of Master of Forest Science from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies in 1986. She received her doctorate in Forestry from Yale in 1993.



Among other institutions, she worked at WinRock International in Arkansas, and subsequently accepted a teaching position at North Carolina State University. She retired in 2017 and was appointed a Professor Emeritus at North Carolina State's Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources in the School of Forestry.



Sarah was always active in the arts, crafts and woodworking, and knitted from wool she had spun and dyed herself. She also learned to weave, enjoying courses from the Triangle Weavers Guild in Durham, as well as serving as its webmaster for several years.



She loved her cats and dogs, adopted from rescue organizations, and had numerous favorite walking routes around Cary. Many neighbors became friends because their dogs liked each other, too.
